http://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-Pittsbu...item1c3885ce3c
Can this be definitively linked to the Pirates? |

he calls this one 1914 Baltimore Orioles Babe Ruth
c'mon man!!!!! "Rarest Babe Ruth Collectible Ever Offered On Ebay" OMG! I know he had a fit when he got called out last time and its just a matter of time b4 he reads this, but even he has to know these 2 claims are GIANT stretches. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1914-Vintage...item19e464bed3 |

RobD DuluthEskimo Slidekellyslde Thecatspajamas Prewarsports ScottGarner you guys are the pennants experts, let hear your thoughts. your silence is deafening! Paul, What??? FWIW, I've never claimed to be an expert on pennants. Please don't include me in your current rant. That being said, I see you are back to attacking legit sellers. Yeesh... |

I see these claims almost daily on eBay and have for years. Most people see right through it as reflected by the low to no bidding on the items. I assume that you are stating one of these is being sold by a net54 member? I wouldn't know. I only know it's not me nor would I ever attempt it. Jason |
So Scott you think that 1909 pennant is "a souvenir of the Pirates first World's Championship".....a "Pirates World Series Pennant"...."the earliest known Pirates pennant in existence"....u agree with all 3 of those statements by the seller?
and that the 1914 pennant is "a 1914 Baltimore Orioles pennant", and "the rarest Babe Ruth collectible ever offered on Ebay" I am not a pennant expert so I am looking to some of you who always comment on these vintage pennants yet for some odd reason all our "pennant guys/experts" have no comment. But again u agree with the sellers comments? |

The claims do seem suspect, but never having handled pennants approaching that vintage, I can't speak with any authority. I try to limit my rants to subjects that I have some knowledge in  |
and Scott....
you have 2,700 posts in 4 years.....now my math ain't too good, but I'm guessing that with 365 days in a year times 4 years you've been posting that comes to about 1400 days....meaning you've made over a post a day every day for 4 years, your the Cal Ripken of this board.....thus u've earned expert status by default.
|
You forgot to list Mike Egner, who wrote the Pennant Price Guide (and is a long-time Net54 member...)
My 2 cents is that these are such obvious fakes and bogus claims, that it barely even warrants a response. I don't think any right-minded person would bid high on these, so I don't find them as harmful as well-done or convincing forgeries. But someone who's ridiculously naive may still get burned. So eBay really should take these down. It is too bad that eBay allows these sellers "free reign" to make any claims they see fit. I guess they only act on bad autographs, and not much else (in the way of memorabilia). |

Paul, Wow, I appreciate that you've taken the time to do all of the advanced math for us. FWIW, my posts are typically about subjects that I have interest or knowledge in, or in appreciation of something cool that another board member has posted. For the record, I choose not to comment about pennants because they are not an area that I have any expertise in. We have too many knowledgeable folks on net54 that are WAY better equipped to discuss the subject of pennants... Just call me Cal |
Thanks all.......I'm sure the seller will make a few bucks off the naive and uneducated.......welcome to America.......but I just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing anything on these 2, didn't think so, but like to throw it out there.

Oops... Missed that one. I'll have to stop doing this remotely, trying to squeeze in posts between flights.

looks like the buying public believes the Baltimore one to be the more "real" of the 2....so far.....we'll see where they end on Sunday night.
The current Score: Baltimore $127.50 (26 watchers) Pittsburgh $22.50 (28 watchers) |
Ok...I know my way around a pennant, so get me on that list fella;)
These pennants are complete rubbish. They are decorative, perhaps vintage (except Baltimore which is crap not rubbish), and charming, but they have little value and I wouldn't purchase them. |

This seller should be renamed Neil Armstrong for all the leaps he makes with his pennants. The "Indianapolis ABC's" pennant was laughable, but he just seems to be taunting us with these two listings. There is no point in emailing this guy either, he will not listen to reason and usually responds with 1000 word essays. The fact that he shows off this crap while linking to some of the most beautiful and expensive baseball pennants extant is hilarious.

Now HERE is a clearly un-informed and less educated eBay seller....
He's sitting on a rare 1920 Cleveland Indians Pennant. Only known example of this style from the Indians mythical 1920 Championship season. A near priceless artifact which is one of only a few remaining links to that storied franchise. So scarce, it doesn't even appear in the Pennant Price Guide. Yet the seller doesn't even hype its condition, value and immense importance... and is offering it to the public at an incredible price. I am amazed that it's still available, and will surely be gone by the time you click on the link... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-CLEV...#ht_390wt_1141 |
This guy bought the Baltimore pennant off ebay the same day he listed it.

You're totally kidding about this Cleveland pennant, right?? |
Yes, of course... It's as generic as they come, and was just making reference to the ridiculousness of the original seller.
|
This guy is nuts
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1914-1915-Bu...item19e4bebfac Scott - u care to retract your statement? |
It's amazing how his generic city pennants turn into rare Federal/Minor/Negro league pennants.
