Bad!

No good! should look like one of these...
|
The back of the card is brown and really grubby looking EXCEPT right along the bottom edge. Probably because the word "REPRINT" was printed there and erased.
Where is/was this card? If on eBay then it should be reported. If on Craig's List. Well, what do you expect....... David |

|
Fake holder;
No factory number; Seller has 2 feedbacks; etc..... |
The whole left side has a frosted edge when it was cracked open, then the reprint was popped in and a fake label inserted.
|
Made by Toops, no doubt

Great cards - however, I'd take the SC 150 on the left all day. The card in the first post is fake all around. Ex -Rare??? Maybe that's how Eddie Plank liked his steak.:) Tony |
Plank Ex-Rare?
Font is wrong.
|
If you have to ask about this -- and I'm not judging the OP, just saying generally -- then you really ought to buy a handful of raw commons before you dive right into cards costing more than, say, $20.
This is a terribly obvious fake. |
Reported!
|
I'd offer a $3 bill for it. :D
|
Looks like someone bid on it now.
|
Hopefully that bidder will ask for his money back . lol
|
The only thing real about this auction is that PSA might have actually graded it a VG-2.

A case like that is scary...I mean to someone who doesn't know much about card grading, that case can be pretty deceiving.

Reported to eBay
I submitted a report to eBay. It is so fake its embarrassing. The certification number doesn't even exist in the PSA database!

message from the seller...
"Thanks for telling me I just inherited a collection and it had this & others in it. Which I did sell one 1910 that turned out to be real and I am learning about this stuff. I thought it was real cause the other card was. It has a certificate with it so I don't know. But thanks for telling me.

Right. He didn't know enough about the card to tell that it was a fake. But he did enough research to know to start the bidding at $12,000.
And as of right now the auction is continuing. |
I have the following card to offer.
EDDIE PLANK EX - FAIR POOR - 1- My scanner crashed when I tried to create images to post. Despite the grade the card exudes panache.;) New to the hobby this masterpiece could be the "Holy Grail" of your collection unless you own another card. I apologize Leon for posting this listing on the Main Board, but trust me, it belongs in this esteemed venue.:p I apologize to the OP as well for hijacking his wonderful thread, but couldn't resist the temptation to list here.:o If the Board is going to talk the Plank, I'm going to walk my Plank. |

The listing just ended, stating it is no longer available because it was sold. If someone made an offline offer to buy the card, they deserve it!

I normally feel sorry for naive bidders who get horn swoggled but in this case the guy who paid $14,000 for this card is a doofus.
|
It will be interesting to see if the card actually sold? I did email the seller informing him the card was bogus and replied he didn't know that. We'll see if feedback is left. If it did actually sell, at 14K you would think a buyer would have common sense, if it's too good to be true PT Barnum was correct again, or maybe he thinks he got a great deal that everyone feel asleep on
|
This Plank card. The Russian "Toops" 52 Mantle. Some non sports cards items that drew a lot of attention on eBay recently also. Just another week on eBay
 |
Sold!

another message from the seller..
"This collection was inherited to me and everything has been authentic. So I took it off because of all the hype. I'm learning about these cards and grading. Thanks ya'll!

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe a seller can end an auction at anytime to the highest bidder.
If the seller canceled his auction, all bids would have been canceled, and the auction listing would show the original starting bid.... Attachment 120460 |
The seller has left the buyer positive feedback on the Plank. I reported this auction to PSA as did several others. They just sent me an email and didn't have enough time before the buyer paid. But they have spoken with the buyer and is now aware he was taken. Hopefully he will get his money back!
|
This is really sad. I would hope PSA gets involved.

Scott, I said the seller left the buyer positive feedback, which I would assume he has paid.
|
Totally read that wrong.. My bad!

Fake seller , fake card , and fake bidder most likely .
|
This seller knew exactly what he was doing. He states that he took the auction down because of the hype, but then we see him leaving feedback saying, "I hope this completes your collection." Hopefully this scammer can now be charged with mail fraud, a federal offense, now that he's likely mailed the card. Getting the funds off of Paypal will likely be an entirely different issue for him.

We know that there are many collectors proudly displaying forged Ruth-signed baseballs in their offices. I wonder how many expensive card forgeries are also living the good life now, with both the oblivious buyer and successful scammer happy with the results?

"This listing was removed by eBay. If you already paid for the item, we recommend that you wait 10 days from the expected delivery date to see if the item arrives. If you did not pay,you are no longer obligated to pay for this item. If you have a problem with the purchase, you can resolve the problem by filing a claim through our resolution center."
Thanks to eBay, negative was removed as if this transaction didn't happen... Therefore this seller now has excellent FB and continues business as usual. A corporate victory! |
