just wondering
if someone did a BIN now - how would Dan handle it? I'm sure he knows what he's doing (at least in this arena :-) hi Dan). I ask because I once sold something I had won in an auction to someone the NEXT DAY before I even got the invoice. They had no idea the item wasn't in my possesion. I ASSUMED it would come in (x) amount of time and allowed for a couple extra days for the item to get to me. I had get the item in a timely fashion, worry about it not being LOST or damaged on the way to me, and it being everything is was listed to be. It was a 2500.00 item so no small change (to me at least) and I was selling it to someone who trusted me and whose relationship was important to me. After a couple of days sweating it out - I realized I put myself in a bad position all by myself. The item ended up coming in a reasonable amount of time - no harm - no foul the deal was concluded. I never did that again....................

There's a part of selling where you always need to regularly bring in fresh, new inventory. When I've done this in the past, I've always found that my old, stale stuff often gets another look from potential buyers.

Well if someone buys it now Dan can buy a plane ticket with some of his profits and fly over to REA to pick it up tomorrow... Then send it t0 the winner... Simple as that!

I collect Dots Miller cards, so that E125 is interesting for a couple reasons. One is that they used his picture from the T206, took the bat out of his hands and put a ball and glove in there instead. Never noticed that. The reason I never noticed it is because I never really looked close. I have no interest in the set due to price and it is off by a lot for me. When I saw the opening bid was $300, I said that's about 6x what I'd pay. Don't see the appeal of that set, might just be me though. $300 just seems like a ton for a die cut like that.

not easy to re-sell items from Edwards and Legendary so quickly. It's most often that the price with vig is high and the item has been seen by most of them what's interested. There are exceptions. One of my favorite dealers got his start at shows going from dealer's table to dealer's table making sales from one to the next. It takes great knowledge of the items and the market. Same case here although sometimes someone has second thoughts about an item they didn't win and will pony up to get it. Mostly it's about the passage of time - at least for me. I don't deal on the "whale scale" - or have connections to celebrities (other than Leon) and the "closet buyers" - a market in which "quick flips" from a prestiege auction might be successful.

I've always wondered WTF these people are thinking? WE're all looking at these auctions together...discussing them ad nauseum on this and other sites. If I didn't want to pay what it sold for in the big auction house...why would I now want it for 30-50% more?! I'm sure Dan thought it was a good deal and doesn't mind having it in his inventory for a while...and that's fine...but those that think they'll sell these "flips" overnight...that's just crazy! |

Nothing wrong with flipping. I work in the public school system and flip to support my affliction...er, the hobby. Proud to say I nickeled and dimed my way into a 1951 Bowman Mantle in SGC 55 free and clear this calendar year and a 1948 Leaf Jackie Robinson in PSA 5 last year. I realize this is off-topic and not pre-war related by there's nothing wrong with buying with the intent to sell, regardless of the turnaround time.

There are a few rare cards that I will purchase every single time I see them for sale and turn around and flip them. If you get them for less than you think they are actually worth, why not right?

Any chance the whiners who are so concerned about Dan's "huge collection" can shut the hell up and not be so obsessed about what he does or doesn't do? The fact that he's built a great collection seems to offend some of you, and your collection envy slips out into posts on a somewhat regular basis. Maybe one solution would be keeping a better focus on your own collection instead of Dan's and maybe someday it might grow to be as big as Dan's. Think of it as baseball card Viagra.
Also, as soon as someone buys one of Dan's ebay listings and doesn't receive the item, or doesn't receive it in a timely manner, it might be worthy of a post. Until then, you're just making a strong argument that "haters gonna hate." -Ryan |

Hello everyone. I thought I would explain myself a little here as many of you are good friends and know me well and would wonder why I am doing this.
Not really concerned with flipping as most of my oddball stuff is priced high as you can see. I buy alot of stuff for myself as I did the recent REA lots. So I stick them in my ebay store which costs me nothing and if someone wants them more than I do then so be it. My ultimate goal is to get most of my collection up in my store eventually. Of course I haven't even got my show stock half up yet so I may die first of old age. Any way, my ebay store is basically a place to showcase some of my neat stuff which I have done with some of my rare T206s that I really do not want to part with. There is a place on the advanced search when you are setting up a global search say like "T206", where you can list certain sellers to block. There are a few sellers that list mainly mainstream pre-war cards and are very high in my opinion and the same stuff keeps popping up so I have these blocked on my searches. To avoid my items you would just need to block darby-s as a seller. I hope this helps take care Dan |

If I saw a piece that I felt were strongly undervalued, I wouldn't have any issue with purchasing, and selling it at market value. The seller got their asking price, and any research I have done, or knowledge I have acquired in identifying a piece that is undervalued will ultimately benefit me.
