Any way to date this bat?
6 Attachment(s)
Long ago I acquired this vintage bat. I was told it was pre-1900, but I know nothing about dating these. It has no markings whatsoever. It's thinner than a major league bat. I have tried to take any photos I think may help. It's alongside a basic ML gamer just to show size.
Also, does it have any value to anyone?? Thanks, Ken |
Hi-
Based purely on the knob and style, my guess is circa 1910-1920, but I am not an expert. Alan |
I am a dating expert. Their is always a way to date the bat. First you just have to be yourself. Dont try to show off or be flashy. They can see right through that. Next be open about yourself, and act intersted in the bat. Always make sure to pull its chair out at the table and open its car door...
But seriously, That is a neat piece! |
I don't believe its a 19th century bat, I think pre 1920 might be a stretch too. I feel a lot of these bats are mis dated by people that sell these regulary.

I would date this bat as 19th century based on your pictures, on several factors:
1. There is pretty much a straight taper from the barrel to the knob. 2. The handle does not show any concave taper. 3. The type of flare knob is comparable to many of my 19th century bats. 4. The exact measurements and weight would help further. Hard to pick an more exact date without being able to compare it with other period bats. John |
