What is the most controversial card now?

I was just curious what card in the industry would be considered the most controversial after the recent information with the Gretzky Wagner? There must be something better than the Cincinnati Wagner nonsense?

ullmandds 10-13-2013 05:34 PM

uh...you mean besides the gretzky wagner? probably the blue old mill back t206 walsh?!

Controversial? Hardly.

Notorious, perhaps.

David W 10-14-2013 10:10 AM

It's probably still the Gretzky/McNall Wagner with nothing at all close to it.

It's gone from PSA 8 to PSA Authentic, decreasing (in theory) it's value by 80%.

But with someone going to prison over the card, it may hold it's value.

Maybe. I bet whoever owns it hopes it does.

wonkaticket 10-14-2013 10:40 AM

All this talk of the card trimming and the card keeping its original untrimmed value is great news. Now if I can just link my few trimmed cards to the hands of the Trim Master General Bill Mastro they are sure to jump in value to pre-trimmed prices!

Perhaps I can get SGC and PSA to do pedigree flips “Mastro Job”.

e107collector 10-14-2013 11:46 AM

Wagner

Any thoughts on what PSA will now do with the PSA 8 Wagner? Is it up to the current owner to contact them, or do they have to reach out to him to correct their mistake?

Also, if they re-grade the Wagner "Authentic," how would they determine the current value, without auctioning it off?

And, if they compensate the current owner for their mistake, does he have to give it the card to PSA at that point?

Tony

ullmandds 10-14-2013 11:49 AM

I'm guessing they do nothing...and the current owner couldn't care less.

Cardboard Junkie 10-14-2013 12:02 PM

I think Kendricks should, (and probably does) have a bunch of three piece suits advising him on this conundrum.

"Three Piece Suits" surely he has a legal team that isn't from the 80's and has more modern attire. :)

ullmandds 10-14-2013 12:28 PM

nice John...I was thinking the same thing...who the hell wears 3 piece suits anymore...except maybe hipster doofus's...and hopefully their pants aren't pleated either!!!!

The latest issue of GQ is loaded with TPS.
Back on topic though....I think the whole black swamp fiasco reeks of controversy.

ullmandds 10-14-2013 12:55 PM

I don't really understand the controversy of the BSF?! Blue OM...yes...but not the BSF?

I understand it's hard to fathom...but the story jives...and the cards are real?

they were all found in perfect shape...not one banged up...was this the only collection in the world that had ALL mint cards that the rest of us have never seen a 5? I am hearing they were sheet cut cards....
the find should have been the uncut sheets!

ullmandds 10-14-2013 12:59 PM

not true, Scott...some were banged up!

ullmandds 10-14-2013 12:59 PM

If the story is true...then it is believable to me!

Pete, I have to say, you confuse me many times with your standard ?!? punctuation...can you stick with one or the other? sometimes its hard to get when you don't hear the person speaking an inflection...:D

ullmandds 10-14-2013 01:01 PM

And if they were cut from sheets...how come certain players are not represented?

ullmandds 10-14-2013 01:01 PM

You say this over and over again. How did you come to this conclusion?

Have you seen the cards? I, and many others have - they are 100% authentic.

Have you spoken to anyone in the family? I, and others have; this family is not on starvation, so money wasn't a huge motivator.

This is an Occam's razor situation: An old man owned a store and kept aside or just plain forgot a stack or two of baseball cards given to him to distribute to kids. It's that simple.

the 'stache 10-14-2013 02:10 PM

Maybe not controversial, but it sure did generate a lot of discussion:

This card is never on Ebay, either. I've been watching for it.

Howe’s Hunter 10-14-2013 02:38 PM

Bill, are we missing a link?

Which "this card"?

ullmandds 10-14-2013 02:40 PM

What Ed...you don't know?

4815162342 10-14-2013 03:46 PM

 BSF E98s are on eBay quite frequently:

I must have missed something, what do I say over and over again? That the BSF is controversial? I came to that conclusion by observing the controversy surrounding them. Capish? (sp?) :) Dave.

Ed, that's weird. My post included a picture of the card as an attachment. I'll try again, using a picture of it from the web (courtesy of vintagecardtraders.com)

http://www.vintagecardtraders.com/vi...2/t202-094.jpg

It's the T202 "Lord catches his man". There was a big debate about the center panel, and if that was Shoeless Joe Jackson pictured sliding into third.

http://net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=124045

It's one of the more fascinating discussions I've seen since becoming a member. It's interesting watching the great minds of this forum work.

I happen to think it is Jackson. And since this discussion, this card has been noticeably difficult to spot on Ebay.

ullmandds 10-14-2013 04:39 PM

agreed...def an interesting discussion...and a controversial card...just not a ton of interest in it...I don't think?!

Maybe not now, but for a night back in February this card, I guess it was more the owner, was the talk of the neighborhood...
