ID help - Honus Wagner in an unidentified film?
Does the Forum think this is Honus Wagner? This image is from a piece of nitrate film shot approximately 1915 to 1925. Any help, thoughts or further information greatly appreciated.

Yes, that's Honus Wagner.

I say it sure does look like him!

I would say it's him....and a photo type card for comparison, added to original post to make it easier to see...

Most definitely.

When you say "a piece of nitrate film," are you talking about a frame of movie film, or a still camera negative? Any markings you can see on the edges of the film (manufacturer, and often a coding of sorts) can help to date the film stock and approximate a date for the image. Sometimes. Would help if you could show the whole frame out to the very edges of the film (not just the image area). Also, a larger, closer cropping of just his head would help for ear and other feature comparisons.
At first glance, it certainly does look like him to me, but I've grown very hesitant to give the thumbs-up to anonymous lookalikes from random photographs. Definitely worth looking into though! |
Defininitely Wags!
Heck of a 1st post! |

That's Hans, no doubt.

I agree--definitely "Shoeless" Joe!:)

I tried to find screenshots for the two movies he was in, but had no luck.
Perhaps, as suggested, someone knows another movie that is not catalogued? http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0905929/?...rchive_footage |
Please look at link below. There are 9 images prior to "Honus" and a couple
afterwards. As they seem to have a hunting theme, I thought they could be from one of the movies he had signed to do and never finished. http://www.flickr.com/photos/nfig/99...n/photostream/ Louis |
It is interesting that part of the storyline seems to be centered around Pittsburgh, where apparently at least one character lives (Augustavius Tagimit). Anyone recognize the pennants on the wall 4 frames earlier?

Only one man's that pretty. It's Honus.

So, would any of you who have stated unequivocably that this is Wagner, pay '1 of a kind' Wagner prices for this if it were an original print? ...or would the doubts start creeping in? ;)

FYI:
If anyone is in the Syracuse area on March 14th might be interested in the following: Rob Stone and Rachel Parker will present The Best of Mostly Lost II at Cinefest 34. The presentation will feature some of the most interesting identifications made at the 2013 workshop: A short featuring baseball legend Honus Wagner, a James Kirkwood drama, a George Ovey comedy and a Phonofilm featuring a young William Frawley. Also, to give you an idea how the screenings work at MOSTLY LOST the last film screened will be an unidentified silent comedy that we request your help with. The Honus Wagner film will be shown during the "Mostly Lost" presentation at Cinefest (www.syracusecinefest.com/node/63) on the 14th at 11:10AM. The screening will take place at the Holiday Inn - Syracuse-Liverpool, 411 Electronics Parkway, Liverpool, NY 13088 (315-457-1122). http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...20639076_n.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...71679476_n.jpg Louis Despres |
