Slightly OT Does a photo of Cobb with Kaline exist?
 

I know Cobb and Kaline met at least once, in the 50's @ Tigers spring training. They probably met other times, (Old timers day at Briggs, etc). I can't seem to find a photo of them together. Anybody help? Dave

According to this article none are known. I find that hard to believe as popular as Cobb was in the press, I would assume someone snapped a photo of the meeting unless it happened behind the scenes.

There is one with Cobb and Kaline at an award dinner in 1958, but other people are in the photo including Hank Aaron and Stan Musial

I was totally confused, because I thought Scott was referring to his playing days. Haha, Nolan Ryan 2014! Now I get it.

Come to think of it, Nolan has aged the worst of any ballplayer I can think of, Man, he looks awful.

He's 67 years old. You think he looks "awful"? Seriously?

Just found out he's now with the Astros again.

For those of us who have followed Ryan closely throughout his career, it does appear that he has aged quickly - remember, he had that rigorous work-out regimen in his 40's, and was in fantastic shape right up until he retired. Since then he's put on weight, grayed, lost more hair and has had to go through losing two back-to-back World Series and one had that horrible 2nd-to-last game.

Now he's joined the Astros, who fired many of his friends when they moved to the AL and who have such high hopes because of their farm system. I'm glad that he's with them, because if anyone could make sure that the club lives up to its potential, I think it's Nolan Ryan; however, as competition he's got the Rangers and Angels who are both strong, the A's who find ways to win the division when they shouldn't, and the Mariners who are also a young team on the rise. It won't be easy, but I'm excited about it.

Expect Ryan to continue aging, which of course should be all of our goals.

He looks 87, not 67!

Anybody else find humor in this being a certified autograph? :D I wonder how many of these have been sent to the Ventura family over the years.

That's an awesome pic, Bill! I never can get enough of that image. I still remember where I was and what I was doing when that happened. Classic ass whoopin handed out by the "old man"!

I heard an explanation years later that I liked: Ventura instinctively rushed the mound, then realized he was charging one of the greatest pitchers in MLB history, and a popular and nice guy to boot, so he just went on through with it to save face, gave Ryan a big hug and took his beating like a man.

If a fan was at this game and filling out a score card, would this be counted as "hits" for Ryan or an "error" for Ventura?I bought this same autographed photo for my best friend and we also wondered if Ventura would sign it for him.

Ventura does sign the photo...pretty good- natured about it.

Heh, you think that's bad? Nolan has been known to sign that photo with the inscription, "Don't mess with Texas." :)

Bill Simmons even makes fun of these Ryan signed pieces in one of this photo-blogs about his yearly visits to the National...

To me, the funniest part about that whole pounding was how Nolan Ryan's hat stayed on his head throughout the incident, remaining almost entirely undisturbed.

Okay, I can't argue with that. Unfortunately I think I look closer to pee wee herman than that guy! We should all be so lucky to look like that at 67...well that gives me 4 more years to get in shape...:D So for right now I can party on! :eek:Dave.
