Dr. James Beckett's First Price Survey

Going through some old baseball card Guides and in my 1977 "Stirling" Guide there was a Beckett price survey of 383 card collectors. Anybody have an earlier price survey? I do remember long before the monthly guide a survey mentioned in The Sports Collectors Digest and wondered what is considered the first..

1977 was the first year Dr.Jim did a price survey

just in case you didn't know---the humble and learned gentleman who responded to you
was himself the editor of Beckett Almanac for a number of years and knows well of whom and of what he speaks.
If you did already know, I'm pleased to underscore this for the newbies!
all the best,
barry

Thank you for the nice words Barry

Yes: Dr. Jim did his 1st price survey for 1977; by 1979 with the help of Dennis Eckes, the 1st Beckett (then Sports Americana) price guide books were released and almost 35 years later, these books are still being produced.

I see Dr. Jim on occasion and he is doing well and he still enjoys looking at and playing with sports cards.

Well I have that Sterling baseball card book, and it has a stapled price sheet tucked inside. Are you saying that was the first price guide Beckett came up with?

I didn't realize Rich worked at Beckett. Thanks, Barry.
