Need pic of Ted Williams batting...in his shorts
Maybe I'm totally imagining this, but I think I've seen a B/W photo of Ted Williams taking batting practice in shorts or his underwear, with no shirt on. I seem to remember the shot being from behind his swing - towards the first-base side of the field (?).
Can someone please post it (or a link) if possible? I need it for demonstration purposes and can't find it on google anywhere. I'm not talking about the various locker room shots of him in a towel or in his shorts posing in his stance, but him actually hitting outside in an empty stadium (maybe Fenway). Thanks, Brad |
A number of these shots are from the Sept. 1, 1941 Life Magazine issue with Ted on the cover. Should be a few available on ebay, if you are so inclined.

The Life Magazine narrative that went along with the Teddy Ballgame photo sequence that Perezfan Mark provided is pretty interesting.
I never realized that Williams advocated eliminating (or down-playing) the lower body from a hitter's swing and essentially using wrist, forearm strength and timing to create his unique style swing. Much different than the modern hitter's approach, FWIW. |
