Projects?

I think most collectors have a purpose (or several) and use projects to organize their collecting efforts. Personally, as far as autographs go, I collect the following:

Hall of Fame index cards
cy young/ROY/MVP index cards
Perez Steele post cards
Hall of Fame baseballs
A few modern Base Sets autographed
1978 Burger King Yankee poster (almost done)

What is everyone else working on???

HOF Auto Rookies 09-23-2013 03:19 PM

Strictly HOF auto 'rookies', or their earliest signed card I can get. If no cards would exist, like Anson etc., then any auto will do, and Joe Mauer

Anything signed by a Brooklyn Dodger
I'm also TTMing a 8x10 of Ebbets Field,

that are left to sign.
And also TTMing an 8x10 of Veterans
Stadium, trying to get as many Phillies
that played in the '70's

I am collecting George Burke photos signed during the player's playing years. Since the Burke photos are somewhat tough to find, I am also working on the 1972 TCMA signed set.

I am trying to get as many HOF autos as possible. Also, yankee stars from 1970s to today. I recently just completed an Yankee photo that I was working on for over 10 years, so looking for a new project and will take any suggestions. Pics a little blurry. eventually i want to frame it with a Thurman Munson autograph.

I'm going for BBHOFers whose careers were over by 1950, and HOF Execs and Umpires who were active in that era. I have most of the <$1000 guys and now am adding just one or two per year. All on 3x5s or other white paper for matting and framing with a photo.

I also need a vintage (1950s or earlier) Yankees pennant to complete the 16 pre-expansion teams.

And I like 1970s Brewers stuff of all variety. . .game used, publications, autographs, 1975 ASG, etc.

mr2686 09-23-2013 09:46 PM

Single signed HOF baseballs - have about 100 or so
1919 blacksox - have 15 including Abe Attell
1927 Yankees - only have 14
1934 Cardinals - Only need 2 easy ones
1955 Dodgers - Need 9 more, and also need several single signed balls.
1960 Pirates - Only need team trainer (Darn you Danny Whelan).
1961 Yankees - Complete but may change out Elston Howard before matting and may add both batboys.
1969 Cubs - Have 18 but only work on when other projects are stalled.
1988 baseball hall of fame anniversary book - Collect in person hof sigs in this book.

I have a couple. I had a negro league bat, but have both run out of room and just about living negro leaguers.

The best is an old baseball encyclopedia I hall around. I have never paid anyone to sign it and very few (including Aaron, Musial, etc) have refused. They know I am not out to resell it. I probably have 200 or so...for newer players, I just have them sign at the top of the page where their entry would appear. Been doing it for 15 years or better...I remember handing it to a college coach who had had a cup or coffee with the Angles and he said,"My, that's a big ass book."

Projects

Currently working on autographs of the first 5 inductees on an affordable and framable medium. I was able to secure my 4th last week (Honus Wagner), but am going to have to save a few bucks before I pickup number 5!

MooseDog 09-25-2013 03:42 PM

Well lets see. Here are a few of my projects over time. As you can see I have a tendency to reach for the unobtainium....

1970s and 1980s:

- Every Hall of Famer
- Every MLB player in the BB Encyclopedia

1990s

- 1990 Leaf signed set
- 1992 Fleer Ultra Signed set
- 1992-93 Upper Deck Hockey signed set

2000s

- one nice item from select superstars of various sports.

Every one was a fail, though I'm only about 50 short on the UD Hockey set.

As my career, for what it is/was never really got rolling, my income never kept up with my collecting desires, so for a while I just gave up on all of these.

Now, I pretty much limit myself to:

- Autographs of every Oakland Athletics player from 1968 until they eventually move (at least one game played) & selected memorabilia from the 1972-74 teams.

- Autographs and memorabilia of the Oakland/California Seals NHL team (1968-76).

dgo71 09-26-2013 01:27 AM

Moose, if you need Terry Murray for your Golden Seals collection, PM me as I will see him in December and would be happy to get some items signed for you.

Maddog 10-13-2013 03:47 PM

My projects that I've been on & off with for a while are:

1) HOF Baseball 160/300 thus far

2) HOF Football 225/281 thus far

3) A set of mini versions of all the various helmets worn
by every NFL, AAFC and post 1960 AFL team with at least one
autograph from a player that played on that particular team/year.
Impossible to complete since I started a bit too late and some years
have no living player.:(
Just getting the helmets is a Royal Pain:D

Cubs autographs (and T-cards such as T3, T-206,T-205, others) from the historic teams as well as 19th Century players. Teams include 1906-1910 years (1907 & 1908 WS Champs), 1918, 1929, 1932, 1935, 1938, 1945 and 1969). The older and more obscure, the better. I have a comprehensive list and am still searching for some real toughies (but the chase is the most fun as it is in most things!!!). Thx, Kit
