has any one noticed
the asking of babe ruth cards, have gone way up over the last 6-12 months. Jesh cards I bought for 100-300 are not asking 500-1200. (price depending on the card) Im just talking asking price here Im not sure any sold for those prices. Im talking about the strip cards, sharpa bro etc.

Uhhhh...YEAH i've noticed!!!! The dramatic increase in early Ruth cards... Has trickled down to many other roof cards... Particularly the strips and the exhibits and my observation. Even the shonen postcards have practically doubled. It's tough to find a decent Ruth card for under 500 bucks these days.

Yea exactly and its happened in just the last few months, crazy!
I think the t 205s are in for the same !!! |
i'd say it's been more than a few months...closer to a year. Not sure I'd agree on those t205's though!!!!!

I agree that the Ruth is mighty...and will prevail...but speaking of escalating strip cards...this is such BS...considering I've had much nicer strips graded A...as this one should be graded...but instead it will sell for huge bucks.
Grading of Strips is such BS...and is a CRAP-chute! http://www.ebay.com/itm/1919-W514-St...item51b22f5b53 |
That is an awesome looking card though
|
it is a gorgeous card but i agree BS the way they grade them. i think you have to know someone to get a number grade.

Anyway, back on topic, it's true that prices on early Ruth sure seem to have increased a lot lately. |
I agree...you have to know someone to get a # on a strip!!!!! SUCH CRAP!!!

I guess you mean like this one

Don't have a problem with the numerical grades on strips card as long as the caveat of "handcut" is there. Collecting high grade strips isn't for me, as a strip could be cut down at any time and still get a grade (as long as it meets size requirements), but I have seen crazier things collected. I have always applauded PSA for at least putting the "handcut" on them.

BTW, there are still some good buys on period Ruth cards but you really have to know the series, depending on which it is, so you don't get fooled..

Was that a real one, Leon? I'm not familiar at all with the issue. Here's another that went pretty cheap...although it has unusual toning...but not sure if I've seen fakes of these?

I'm glad I saw this thread since it's been a question of mine for awhile. I'm looking to add my first Ruth in the next couple of months and I really like the Fro Joy's mainly because I love the line "chalked full of 'youth units'." I also like the Ruth Candy ones mainly for the same reason as "his candy helped him." I'm looking to get of the batting poses.
How much do these typically go for and more important are they even available at times? I know the Fro Joys and the Ruth Candy's are a tricky bunch and repo's are rampant. I tried looking them up on Card Target but didn't get any search results. Thanks for any help, you are all a truely amazing bunch. |

And to answer Peter's questions... the one I got, and another from the same seller, are as real as can be. As for the postcard you posted I don't know but I don't care for the toning on it, it looks sort of like enhanced aging...but again, I really don't know. |
