Does anyone recognize the guy on the right, and can anyone date what may be his WS ring?

Looks like Pepper Martin

Thanks for the input and I agree there is some resemblance with respect to a few of the Pepper Martin images I found, but the ear shape is markedly different.

Any chance it could be Stan's dad? I can't seem to find an image of him to compare. If so though, I guess that would have to be one of Stan's rings he is wearing, so it looks like IDing the ring's year will be key either way.

Lance - that's unlikely. The ID request came from Stan's son.

Musial hit his 400th home run in May of 1959. Pepper Martin would have been 55. I think I would have pegged the guy in this photo as older than that. Then again, maybe some hard living leathered him up a bit. It doesn't look too much like Martin to me. Is the ring definitely a World Series ring? Could it just be the guy who caught the ball? Or maybe a Cardinals executive presenting it to Musial? Were any 1959 Cardinals execs former players who were on championship teams?

We don't know that it is a WS ring - but it is very similar to (but not exactly the same as) some examples of 1940's-50's WS rings we found.

It could be an exec, coach or former player (or a fan if it's not a WS ring).

I would assume that it's the fan that happened to catch the 400 ball...

Looking at the photo I instantly thought it could be an older Paul Waner....I definately could be wrong and this is not my photo but thought I'd throw in my guess as to who it could be. Either way best of luck and great photo...thanks for sharing.

Jerry G 09-15-2013 09:45 PM

Hey, aren't you Paul Waner?

Yep, it's Big Poison. Found a similar picture in the Cardinals 1960 yearbook. It is on one of two pages labeled Highlights of 1959.

Brandon- You goat-nosed me on the ID by one minute! Good job, man.

Thx!....You know you spend too much time searching for memorabilia when you can identify former big leaguers long after their playing days.

Here's the full two pages of the yearbook.
