fakes
Hi Phil,
I'm not a photo guy. Would you please tell me the signs that made you think these are fakes? It may help me avoid purchasing fakes in the future. Thanks, Rick |
Hey, Rick:
The clarity of these photos is not there to be originals. The telltale sign for most all of the fake Negro League photos though is the spider veins that you can see running through different parts of the photo. |
Well... here is another fake photo that has been up on ebay for awhile too. Unfortunately, it is slabbed by Beckett.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1919-Babe-Ru...item19d182b593 DESCRIPTION: "SINCE THIS ITEM HAS BEEN AUTHENTICATED BY BECKETT THERE WILL BE NO RETURNS ON THIS ONE" Surprise...surprise.... |
Thanks for the heads up guys!!

The Ruth flip says "Underwood News Serv." But not on the photo, that I can find.

copyright by underwood & underwood N.Y. ? service co N.Y. distributors. Just the standard thing they added while printing the originals and it will be part of any uncropped fake too. To me the big tip off is the sepia tone. I don't think they were supplied to the press that way. And the distributors usually had a more readable "property of " or "copyright by" on the back. It wouldn't be a bad photo to frame at say $10. Steve B |
