N172 Old Judge 304-1 McClellan photo crop
I got this McClellan in the mail today. The card has been trimmed at the bottom. The photo is a "zoomed-in" version of the usual pose 1 photo. Usually, McClellan is pictured further in the background with more of the tree visible.

All of the 1887 issued Brooklyn cards are "zoomed in" (except the minis). The poses that were re-issued in subsequent years were not "zoomed in" and therefore show more of the players surroundings. This is covered in great detail in the OJ book, pages 80-83 (4 whole pages dedicated to your observation). Once you've digested that material you will also understand how and why the Brooklyn mini came about.

Joe,
Thanks for directing me to page 80. I see it now. I guess I should have actually read y'alls book instead of just looking at the pictures. regards Rob |
No problem, I have no issues with referring to the book. It is a lot easier than reciting the content found within.
