Has anyone seen the 52 Mantle BVG 8 (Goodwin)?
Is it me or do the borders appear discolored? I'm sure it's just the scanner settings, just curious....
|
I thought about it but did not make a post... Bottom edge looks trimmed... It's goodwin --- If the card could be in a PSA holder it would be IMO....
|
BVG Mantle
I agree, something doesn't appear right with that card.
If it was a PSA 8, it would be much higher, in my opinion, than the price it's at right now. I'm not sure if it's the scanner settings or not, but the back of the card appears to have some sort of toning throughout? Any thoughts? Tony |
The back of the card toning I agree has some issues as well as a possible trimming of the card. There's a reason it's not in a PSA holder
|
I think what D MArvin meant to say was..."there's a reason it's not in an sgc holder!" If it were in a psa holder...It'd likely still be trimmed/altered.:)

I have looked at blown up scans, and this grade is really perplexing. Having said that, I have had a few beckett graded T206s and had pretty good luck with them price wise....
|
To me card looks stained and I too wonder about the borders. Look at the lower right corner of the back and tell me what you think.
|
The corners on lot #57...green cobby aren't exactly confidence inspiring to me either?!?!?

The card sure looks to me like it has come in contact w/ something greasy OR has been subject to some kind of a "cleaning" agent. I don't think the scan settings have anything to do w/ the way it looks.

Scanner setting the culprit ?

....normally you can barely make out the ''BVG'' logo on a Beckett BVG slab...in order to make it so visible there may have been a lot of trial and error scan attempts.....just a thought.... |
I do know that at the 2000 National in Anaheim a collector submitted a high-end 1952 Topps Mantle to PSA for on-site grade and they rejected it for "Evidence of Trimming". The same collector then submitted it to Beckett on-site and it graded BVG 7 or 8? Now I'm not even sure which grade since it was so long ago. Whether this is the same Mantle I have no idea.

Relative to the color of the label, the borders really do look off colored.

Beckett's '' BVG''
Quote:
....In 2000 Beckett was encapsulating all sportscards , regardless of era , using four subgrade categories listed on the reverse and there was a large artsy logo of a big ''B'' on the front....''BVG'' was first used several years later than 2000 and they still retained the sub-grade system for several more years.....this Goodwin '52 Mantle is a fairly recent submission. .....and wow what a memory you have ! |
Some nice cards up, looking forward to seeing hammer prices on a few
|
The Mantle looks like it has a very slight diamond cut making the bottom look trimmed. Hard to tell from the scan though. The border color is a little weird.
|
On line scan looks "cleaner" now than how I remember it from my first look.
|
Wow, evidently there is someone not too worried about the card, it's already at $55,900 (with juice) with still a week left....I don't get it.
|
Does anyone else notice a difference between the scan up now and the scan that was originally on the site, or am I just imagining this?

This is hilarious. The buyer won't even be able to cross it. I'll sell my Mantle for $50K and it looks a hell of a lot better than this one.
|
Agreed....beautiful card for the record!
|
Gorgeous card.
