Bought this photo described as a George Gibson photo. While he may be in the picture, can I have your thoughts on who the Cub player is. I think I know but looking for better opinions that mine. Does anyone know the others in the photo? Or any information on the photographer? First time post-er, hope I did this within the rules....Thanks!

Looks like Gibson, with Alexander in the Cubs uni.

Nice.

My Two cents

Not my bag but I've attached a Conlon photo of George Gibson in a Cubs uniform. He was the last of three managers of the Cubs in 1925 (26 games). He did not return in 1926. Therefore....

if this is Gibson, it is probably late in the season. 1925 was a bad year for the Cubbies explaining the lack of fans in the stands.

With the car on the field I can only imagine that this picture was taken on one of the following:

1. Fan Appreciation Day and Gibson was picking the winner of the car out of the hat of one of the other guys, one of whom was a car dealer seeking recognition for his role in the giveaway.

or

2. The Last Day of the Season and Cubs management brought the car onto the field to take George Gibson to the train station with a one way ticket.

or

3. The four gentlemen were simply late arrivals, and drove onto the field through an open gate, thinking they were entering the parking lot, during a September game and are being told by George to move their car as the game was already in progress.

If this doesn't help (and it will not), I'm sure one of the ear guys on the Board can use the Conlon photo to verify George's identity using auricular simulation technology (AST);)

Excuse me, but I have to get back to the main board.

While there is no doubt that all of Frank's scenarios are true....I too think it's Alexander with maybe Gibson on his right. Not sure though. I don't think the seller knew what they had.

Pete

It is 1926 at Cubs Park/Wrigley Field. The Cubs and their fans held a "day" for the popular old Pete Alexander...in support for his off-field problems with alcohol (which came to a head in 1925). On this day in June, Alexander received this new Lincoln auto and some cash. A few days later he was released and the St. Louis Cardinals picked him up. I am not sure why Alexander has a 1925 cap in his hands. Thoughts?
Sorry, I don't recognize the other gentleman.

Don't see Gibson

Saw the auction...but don't believe George Gibson is in the photo.

Maybe he was pretty stewed that day and wore the wrong hat.
