T206 Hall Of Fame Back Set -- I finished!

1 Attachment(s)
It took me five years, but I finally finished my t206 HOF back set and wanted to finally display it! It includes all the backs with a HOFer on the front except a brown Lenox and a blank back, which didn't come in packs (so I can justify not needing those toughies for this quest to be complete). The Young portrait is rough but it was my first t206 from my Dad so I kept it in the line rather than upgrading it. Although I have all the backs, I am trying to add the final Young (glove) pose in place of the Sweet Cap Marquard throwing so that the run will then include all the Cobbs, Mattys, Johnsons and Youngs (the back run currently includes 11 of these 12 big ones).

A huge thanks to Chris Browne for making this awesome grid for me. Also thanks to the many board members who sold me or traded me cards over the years (Bobby O'Brien, Mike Healer, Stefan W, Chris Buckler, Mac Wubben, Tim Cathey, Martin B, Mike Brailey and I am sure there are others I am forgetting). I have never bought a card in an auction or at a card show. Other than the Young portrait from my Dad, all of these cards came from this board (either on BST or trades/sales with board members that I met here) or from eBay.

This has been a lot of fun and pretty challenging. Not sure what's next for me.

Best,
David R

Nice job! Looks great!! You might consider all available backs for each HOF pose -- would be tremendously expensive and time consuming!

Congrats David. Nice back run there...

jp1216 08-27-2013 12:45 PM

Great job. Beautiful collection. Lots of tough backs in there. Congrats.
I remember when a board member had that BL460 available. Almost pulled the trigger....

Big-league accomplishment.

MVSNYC 08-27-2013 03:18 PM

Congrats! looks awesome...As someone who's done the back run (twice) with only commons, i cannot imagine how tuff it is to do with all HOFers. very cool.

HercDriver 08-27-2013 03:18 PM

Love it!

I love collections like that, where each card fits the piece of a puzzle that comes together at the end...awesome stuff!

Take Care,
Geno

Well, for the next few days, you could just sit back, relax, and enjoy looking at that sweet collage Chris made of your back run. What a great image of a fantastic collection.

Congrats, David! Good luck and have fun with whatever is next.

brob28 08-28-2013 12:20 AM

Great effort David, having a card from your Dad in there makes it even better!

t206blogcom 08-28-2013 08:23 AM

Great job, very well done. I like that you kept the Young portrait that your father gave you!

David R 08-28-2013 09:28 AM

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

My wife is very accommodating of my collecting but she didn't really understand or appreciate the accomplishment in the same way as all of you fine gentlemen. I showed her the grid and this thread and she mumbled something about wearing underoos. Oh well.

ethicsprof 08-28-2013 11:06 AM

quite the milestone, david.
congratulations!
all the best to you,

Yes, exactly. And that we all live in our parents' basements. ;-)

Actually I told her everyone here looks like this.

I remember you just starting this project.....VERY impressive accomplishment...WOW!! congrats my friend:)

I must apologize to you about Beckley BB....I just have so much trouble parting with my scrap....BB HOFERS are near impossible to find....The Beckley BB is the only known example I believe....

Anyway, email me when you can....and again, CONGRATS!! THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL:eek:

Hey Johnny,
Thanks for the kind words. You'll notice I was thinking ahead and saved a seat at the table for the Beckley blank :-). Beckley is not otherwise represented in the back line so he could slide right in at any time. Hope springs eternal!
David

mrvster 08-29-2013 07:36 PM

David.....

You are someone who would deserve "the count" Beckley......I always felt guilty not selling/trading it to you.......please forgive me.....I don't want to be a "scrap tease":)

These DAMN scrap have me so crazy:o ..... I'm dreaming of Wagner always....hopefully Beckley will go to my dream with the rest of my circus of freaks.....

it's like they are my kids:)

but, if the Beckley decides to travel, I know where he would go....

YOU HAVE such an impressive back run there....WOW....i'm still in awe...

GREAT accomplishment, great focus, and what a bankroll there:)

CONGRATS AGAIN MY FRIEND:D

GHCHambone 08-29-2013 09:20 PM
