Something tells me some of these cards wouldn't go over well today.
I guess this one is technically 20th century... but close enough. http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps11cb8655.jpg |

Awesome cards! I really like these, especially their general affordability compared to regular cards from the era. I happened to pick up nine of them at the paper show in Hartford this past weekend and they are scanned below. My favorites of this group are the Marshall and Ball ones.

Not quite 19th century, but close enough to throw in the mix... For more, go to http://www.sportingoregon.com/

My God, these are beautifully illustrated. And I don't recall seeing any of these before.
Just when you think you've seen it all, the hobby can still surprise you. |
few I managed to keep

I long ago gave up the chase for these little-bits-o-gold - as finding some of the types proved impossible or unaffordable. Here are some of the ones I have left. The blue trade card isn't rare by itself - it's special because it's actully a FOLDER from the series - I believe only ONE of each figure was ever produced. I included a few N comic cards as well seeing that Jerry showed one :-). The Brownie card is tough too - the one with the lemon peel can be thought of as a ticket or trade card I suppose. The Giants piece speaks for itself and the National League chew card might be one of the best ever although there's nothing funny about it except that it made it onto a stamp...........
BTW - Willow Grove - think there are 4 in that set - VERY hard to find. That Tobin color and B/W grouping is OUTSTANDING! |
