Toning on baseball

What causes brown toning on a baseball? Oxidation. Can you "treat it" and how do you prevent it. Also what are the absolutely best baseball cubes concerning uv light etc.

Is the location where you stored the ball humid?

Thanks for the thread Dave! Here is a question i have been pondering, perhaps not a good one. Would contemplating purchasing a humidor for your ball collection make sense? I just figured since humidity is of concern, perhaps this help eliminate any question about moisture compromising the balls.

Unless the storage conditions are extmely hot and humid, toning on balls is more likely the result of natural aging in the leather and the chemicals the leather was processed with. This happens even under the best of conditions.

Unless you are living in Panama with no air conditioning, I doubt a humidor will make much difference.

LOL. Well, i am not living in Latin America and do have air conditioning. Thanks for the feedback!

Most of the toneing came from balls produce in Hati. In the 80's. You can not stop that because it is in the leather. You can prevent fadeing by keeping the ball out of sign light.

Toning can also come from the tuna hoagie with oil you had 10 minutes before you got the ball signed
