Help w/ 1888 Old Judge Cabinets.....
2 Attachment(s)
Can anyone help me with identifying the card in the attached scan? It appears to be some kind of "cropped" image of a 1988 Slattery Old Judge. It measures 4 1/4 x 2 3/4. Here's an original from the Met library. Any help would be appreciated.

It is not an Old Judge card. OJ's were not produced with those dimensions, and they came in very thick cardboard stock. Yours seems to be a thin photograph. It seems be a reprint - I doubt that the piece is period, but some experts here could tell you better than I.

cyseymour - thanks for your post. I know that it's not an actual Old Judge (wrong dimensions ; not on the correct backing). What I was trying to convey is that it's the same photograph as his 1888 Old Judge cabinet card, but has been cropped and was put on an old card stock. Just seeing if anyone has every seen anything like this. Thanks!

Moved this to the main forum from the BST....looks like some sort of reprinted picture to me. Maybe others will know more.

Looks like a reprint, for a variety of reasons. Just one being that they wouldn't crop the crop company name/copyright. Even if it was an 1880s competitor or magazine picture that leased the image, they'd either leave in the entire text or entirely remove it. Clearly, Goodwin wouldn't have cropped their own name.

Not the same dimensions, but looks somewhat like this reproduction on ebay...
