August pick up thread
 

With the National underway, this thread may take a few days to become active.
I'm sure it will fill up with all sorts of goodies soon though.

This just arrived in the mail a day or so ago. It's not baseball related per se,
but there is a slight nexus to our hobby. The previous owner was kind enough
to depart with one of his copies.

Just got this E93 Chase - wish all of my 30's/2's looked this nice....

That really is a great card for a PSA 2.

Patrick, you should post that Phelps in the T206 Virtual Set thread. It should be time for Phelps in a couple days. :)

A surprisingly difficult card for me to find.

Nice one, Paul. That is a very tough one to find.

So my want list was pretty focused this year going to the National and we were trying to do the whole thing in only Wednesday so I moved pretty fast and wish I had some time to talk to some people but just didn't. I found very little in the way of CJ's and have needed the final 2 for a few months now. In the back as I was almost done I found the Wags but decided to walk away from it. The dealer was nice, I just didn't have my mind wrapped around spending that much money, but I wanted the Wanger. We came home, I had non-buyers remorse and worked out a deal over the phone and with another buddy at the show to arrange this. I thank Glenn Mechanick, the seller and fellow board member for being flexible and making this work...so now I am down to one! Its been killing me waiting all day for my friends to get back with card.

Awesome card. Glad you bought that and not the e105 wags!

Really nice pickups, everybody. August is off to a great start, and after everybody is home from the National, I expect we'll be seeing even more great pick ups.

There's still a lot of unknowns around these "proofs", but I'm totally jazzed to be able to add this to my collection all the same. Thanks Jay!

My first big pickup at the national..

As far as I am aware.. this is the 1st Sweet Cap 150 Yellow Brown..... the Yellow Brown Scraps are almost always found with SC 350-460 fact 30... I was really interested in the card when I saw the SC 150 back..

Thanks to a fellow Net54 member I was able to add Cy and a very tough League Park bleachers postcard view to my collection. Also came across a Case Auto Joe Tinker card that is a variation from the one I already have and a Walter Johnson Sporting News Postcard. A good month so far.

Richard, that's quite an interesting proof. Beautiful, actually. I love the simplicity that proofs offer. What was your original inspiration to collect George Gibson? I don't know a lot about him.

Jamie, what's the story behind the T206s with limited ink runs? Were these done as testers, or were they simply discarded (maybe because they weren't happy with the color levels)? I know you refer to them as scraps. If you could provide a little background info to somebody who would like to learn, I'd appreciate it. I've started reading the Inside T206 pdf download, and I'm fascinated by how they produced these lithos. Thank you!

Hi Daryl. Very nice pickup, congrats! I know very little about the Melo Mints. Is there a good online resource you could refer me to? I love the candy cards from this era, especially the American Caramels, and would like to expand my collection to include some of these.

Brad, these are incredible! Just beautiful!!!! I especially love the W572. Great eye appeal, and nicely centered. Did you get those at the National?

Jim, these postcards are amazing. The Cy Young cards almost look hand colored. I had a friend in college that would take black and white photographs, and hand color them. They had the same incredible eye appeal.

Nothing too crazy, but chugging along on a few sets I'm picking at.

Nope these are all eBay finds I'll try not to make you too jealous but I picked up the W572 for under $300, I was quite happy with that.
