2013 National Photos & Videos?

If any board member is willing to post photos and videos of this years' National, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm sure the other members will as well.

I know in the past, some board member's were kind enough to do so for us who are unable to attend.

Thanks in advance,

Tony

Much more than that has been done to that Plank. I will post a link later.

Cant seem to find the discussion. Long story short that card at one time was missing most of its borders and had some infield issues wavy missing cut like the 150 Piedmont REA sold. The card was then nestled into another T206's borders. If you overlay that card in Photoshop compared to other Planks you will notice the "A" in his uniform is much closer to the right border because of the amount of the card that was missing. At one time I did an image but can't find it. I think some nice collectors still own the card as an extra Plank its a cool card nonetheless. Funny SGC didn't place altered on that holder...

Here is a quick image I did, you can see the fold in his uniform and a bit of the uniform is cut off compared to the random Planks on the left....

The Plank shown from the Huggins auction has had too much restoration for my taste. There was a PSA Plank in REA a few years ago that had a little bit of restoration compared to the Plank pictured. The eye appeal was superb, and it had a SC 150 back. The REA one would be the card I would purchase.

You don't want to buy anything from from that guy Chris, he's the same joker with that creased up SGC 86 Gehrig. :)

I believe these CJs were in the PSA area...these are the ones that were advertised... a high end collection on display and not for sale. Not 100% on that though.

I really wish I would have taken some shots of the Black Swamp cards. They were also behind glass. Amazing condition cards! Razor sharp corners, bleach white borders, rich crimson hues...just gorgeous.

It always amazes me to see so many cherry 50s Topps superstars...not just one or two sharp Mantles, but dozens. In the next dealer's case you will see the same superstar blazers, but in a larger quantity. I am awestruck every year.

I was happy to also see the set builders...well inked want lists in front of them, going through giant stacks of 1957 commons...

...and the kids with their Dads ripping open pack after $4 pack...

...kids scouring the bargain bins...

...people speaking in every regional accent wearing their home team's jersey...

Just like your local show, except you are standing elbow to elbow with the guys who compile the price guides, produce the product, grade your cards, comment on these forums, sell you their wares on eBay and sometimes outbid you.

I had an agenda for my searching, buying and selling...so when I finally completed my main goals, it was already mid-afternoon. I wanted to take more pics, but instead, found myself entering into one interesting conversation after another. I wandered as a grown up kid in the proverbial candy store. I just ran out of time and ran into more and more cools things to see.

If you missed this year's show; no problem, you have a whole year to make it to Cleveland in 2014. :)

Here is a nice article and video of Mile High and Brian Drent talking about the "Field of Dreams" collection that was consigned to them for the upcoming Oct 2013 Auction.

High grade Collins McCarthy and Sporting news sets estimated at $500K+.

Yea Tony, nice link. Those are cards of all our dreams. Think I'll go back and take another look.

I have a great pic of Chris, JimB, Al, Al's friend, etc.

Are 'in action' shots of board members okay, or do I need to get release waivers signed?

Meanwhile, here's a burger I had downtown on Wednesday, featuring an amazing tomato-onion. Chicago does burgers well....or medium-rare

Cardboard Junkie 08-04-2013 02:16 PM

Scott....What's a "Tomato-onion", I see the red onion, but I don't get the tomato part? Dave ps Your burger looks like about a 7 with qualifier, no tomato.

Matthew H 08-04-2013 02:18 PM

I'd say its a 6 and the cheese maybe a 2, but I bet walking around the national can make you hungry and impair your judgement :)

The red part at the bottom of the onion is actually the tomato - the two were cut in a weird way so that they 'merged'.

Matt - the 1st day we both flew in on red-eyes, so no sleep and walking around all day; the 2nd day we did not have coffee until 2:30 and did not eat anything at all until after 7:00pm. Third day we met Al, so I probably don't need to say much more - it was a blast, but judgement was impaired further.

I met the tomato-onion the first afternoon, so you can imagine the things I thought I saw from then on out.

Hey Eric - sorry I didn't come over and say 'hello', but you were quite popular - probably due to the nature of your 'job' on dinner night :). I was sitting at the table behind you.
