Need help identifying some autos. (Scan heavy)
If any of these look familiar, please let me know, any help would be greatly appreciated.
To narrow it down, they’re all from the early 50’s and the majority were signed at Griffith stadium. So there a lot of Senators, but also visiting teams from those years. Detroit, Cleveland, Yankees, Boston, White Sox, St. Louis Browns or Orioles depending on how early they are. Here is the link to the ones I’ve been able to identify. http://flic.kr/s/aHsjH3sCeS The first two look like Dave Williams and Sam White, But I can’t find any info on them. The rest I have no idea. All but the last one has been identified, thanks! |

I'll do some of the easy ones:
Cal McLish Earl Torgeson Ewell Blackwell Ken Kuhn Bob Porterfield Red Wilson Ruben Gomez Paul Foytack Rudy Regalado Ernie Oravetz Spec Shea Al Dark Jerry Coleman Ray Monzant Greg |
You also have Harmon Killebrew and Bucky Harris
|
Holy crap, thanks guys. If you're referring to the Killebrew from the link, I knew about that one.
|
From the top...I'll see if I can find the couple I missed:
Dave(y) Williams Sam(my) White Cal McLish Bucky Harris Mel Harder Sherm Lollar Earl Torgeson Ewell Blackwell Ken Kuhn Karl Olsen Bob Porterfield Red Wilson Hank Allen Carlos Paula Ruben Gomez Dick Tellelbach Al Aber Killebrew Paul Foytack Rudy Regalado Ernie Oravetz Johnny Schmitz Spec Shea Al Dark Jerry Coleman Jose Valdivielso Bunky Stewart Steve Ridzik Ray (Ramon) Monzant Herb Score Oravetz again Mike Garcia Chuck Stobbs (this one's got me stumped) |
Wow, thanks, I really appreciate it.

Amazing, this post has only been up for 2 hours and all but the last one has been identified. This place is awesome.

Just curious, I think two of you said this first auto was Killebrew, but I've never seen one like that.
The second one I've seen all over. Is the first one definitely him? http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7304/9...93fb841154.jpg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3704/9...85e00b1d59.jpg |
Killebrew was one of the greatest autograph signers in the history of sports. The top one looks like maybe he had his hands full, or signed while someone was holding the 3x5 stack for him but I have no doubt it's good...the guy would sign and sign until everyone who wanted one got one.
Another thing about Killer is when he signed, he actually acted like he enjoyed it. I have no doubt this was sincere. He'd smile, thank people when the complimented him, take pictures, shake hands, whatever. Few professional athletes have been so in touch with the fact that fans pay their salary. |
Great info, Thank you

FYI, I was guessing on the Carlos Paula, but maybe Stinson can chime in on that one. If it is Paula, it is probably the most valuable of your lot.
I've never had one myself, and from what I understand he's pretty hard to find, apparently an lifetime alcoholic died relatively young at 55. Kevin Keating (Quality Autographs) is asking $850 for one he has, not that his price resembles an actual "market" price, but if you apply the 20% Keating to Reality conversion it's still up there. |
That's good to know. I wish I could compare it to the one at Quality Autographs but the photo quality is poor.
Have you seen it anywhere else so I could compare? Thanks. |
