Arnold Palmer - real or autopen?
I got this thru his office, and I have been promised that it is not an autopen. But I have my doubts that it is real. What do you guys think? It is kinda sloppy for an autopen but just not sure.
|
Looks fine to me. Keep in mind Arnold is no spring chicken and that appears to be a hat? signed. hard surface to sign on.
|
I can't say for sure, but it does look like the 'Best Wishes' and 'Arnold Palmer' are signed with different pens. Would make me suspicious that at least one of those were not signed by Arnold.

I think his secretary does the personalization. Has been that way for years.

Exactly right on the personalization. The autograph looks just fine to me. Nice pick up.

Is that a hat or a pin flag?
Also couldn't the name be an auto pen and the salutation secretarial? |
Flag pin. And yes, the autograph could be autopen. Which is why I want to get the boards opinion. Just not sure on this one.

It's real. An autopen wouldn't having the trailing "tail" at the end of the "d"; it would be a more abrupt stop. Same with the beginning of the "A"; it would have a more abrupt start.
Also the connection between the "P" and "a" has a very light connection that you will not get with an autopen (same pressure thoughout). Finally does not look like any other pattern of his I have seen. |
I am 99% sure it's not an autopen. Just doesn't look like one. As for authenticity, looks like Palmer stuff I've had or seen in the past. It looks like a Masters Pin Flag. Those aren't the easiest to sign either due to the texture, so I would say it's good. I could see that the personalization was signed in another hand though.
