Guy Green's Nebraska Indians c. 1900 Barnstormers

2 Attachment(s)
I just picked up a kind of neat original 1907 Nebraska Indians book which tells the early history of this Barnstorming team as written by it's owner/manager, Guy Green. It's almost 100 pages and is full of all kinds of tall tales about his Indian players. The back has game by game scores of all of their games since they were formed in 1897 as well as a scorecard, which leads me to believe these books were only sold at their games. After reading a few of these stories, I wondered if anybody had some pics, especially if they're identified, of any of these players or if you just had other interesting info you could share.

Thanks,
Rob M.

That's what I was about to suggest. I would also say that, if you were ever inclined to move it to a new home, you could not find a new owner who would appreciate it more than Dan (if he doesn't have one already). The depth of his Nebraska baseball collection is incredible.

Thanks guys. I forgot about Dan's collection. If he has any photos, I'd love to see them.

Here is a copy of the first issue of Guy Green's Nebraska Indians book from 1900...I've never been able to locate another copy. Yours is a 4th edition I presume...I have never encountered a 2nd or 3rd edition. The 4th edition pops up a couple of times a year on ebay.

If I get time tonight I'll load up some photos of my collection.

Here's a cabinet photo of the team circa 1906...the player third from left in the back row is George "Chief" Johnson who played with the Cincinnati Reds before jumping to the Federal League.

He is listed as "Standing Bear" in the Sporting News Guide
<a href="http://s22.photobucket.com/user/nudan92/media/Nebraska%20Indians%20Baseball%20Team/nebinds2.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b331/nudan92/Nebraska%20Indians%20Baseball%20Team/nebinds2.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo nebinds2.jpg"/></a>

Unfortunately because most of the players on the Nebraska Indians team went by names that Green probably gave them, identifying players on these teams is very difficult especially because he did not mention in his writings their real names.

Here is his 1916 Zeenut card.

This is the kind of ticket you got in 1907 and you had to wear it so it could be seen...too many people were sneaking into games costing the Indians money.

Yep, and it's a great read too. This book has been reprinted along with the first edition that I posted above and can be found on Amazon and other bookseller websites.
