T206 Anderson - Name Double Strike?

2 Attachment(s)
Picked this up in Chantilly (full disclosure: I purchased for resale). Has anyone else seen a double strike of the player's name like this? I think that I've seen a similar card posted here.

In this one, the 'A' in Anderson is easily visible, but it appears that Anderson in full is there twice. I don't see any part of Providence as a double strike.

Thoughts?

I've seen this very card before! Oh wait, it was when you showed it to me two hours ago in Chantilly. :D

I started thinking that I had seen something very similar to this one on the board not too long ago.

Nice pickup!

Erick - I knew I had seen something similar before. There's one similar to yours up on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/T206-Soverei...-/130850417724

That's one I recalled as well... Maybe the one I'm remembering was a Coupon and it was a two city names that appeared.

Definitely curious about this one.

Nice pickup. I have one similar to the other variant shown...must have been a problem plate.

Double A MCO

I was going to post my double strike Anderson to see what all you folks thought...looks like I was beaten to the punchbowl. I will post it by this weekend sometime for comparision sake.

As an FYI, the one I picked up at the show has a Piedmont 350 back.

Three double strikes and yer out!

Here is my John "Double Strike" Anderson...what a cool baseball nickname that would have been.

Brian

PS: Mine has a Piedmont 350 back as well.

mrvster 07-13-2013 08:02 PM

Hi Johnny,
I'll try to post mine tomorrow ....
Be well Brian

The other version is quite messed up, the "C" in PROVIDENCE looks more like a "D". Ill get a better scan once it arrives.

t206hound 07-14-2013 09:41 AM

what does this mean?

Looks like there are four double strike Anderson's held by board members (apparently all Piedmont 350)... is this a problem with the plate, or a problem with the printing?

Also, the other two cards with a different (yet shared) print anomaly in the caption are both Sovereign 350s... hmmmmm.

danmckee 07-14-2013 10:14 AM

I have 1 similar to this, it is a neat printing freak! Nice card.

2 year old thread BUMP

After the sale of the Pfeffer Chicaco variation at $2250, is it possible for these other name errors will gain more traction as well? Or do they need to get check listed by Beckett as well?

Didn't you buy the Bridwell from me? At a very very reasonable price also!

Lucky strikes are the best smokes

There doesn't seem to be strong interest in this printing error. Of course my John 'Double Strike' Anderson begs to differ, believing he is rightfully a quadruple digit blunder, as all misfits are prone to do.

This is the type I have. If a G that looks like a C can garner a bump to 2k+ then I don't see why one that is this mangled including a C that looks like a 'D' or 'O' shouldn't be also. I have a feeling, though, it all has to do with well established checklists.

atx840 10-20-2015 07:06 PM

My example can be had for 1/8th that price! $250 and it's yours :D

REA Sovereign PSA 1MC for $840

When I saw this card in REA (and not noted as double strike), I had to go back to this thread to see if a Sovereign back had been referenced. Pretty strong price for this:

The Sovereign in REA is the third Sovereign that I've seen of the double struck Anderson. With the ones posted in this thread there are 8 Piedmont double strikes that I know of. I've seen a few of the "damaged" versions with the O or D in providence with different degrees of damage and they are also found on Piedmont's and Sovereigns.

I picked a double struck Piedmont and Sovereign a few years ago.
