1902 En route to a 2-0 victory over Baltimore, left-handed hurler Rube Wadell, playing in his first game for the Connie Mack's A's, faces the minimum 27 batters, striking out 13 in the Oriole Park contest. In the sixth frame, the 25 year-old Philadelphia southpaw becomes the first American League pitcher to toss an immaculate inning when he fans Billy Gilbert, Harry Howell, and Jack Cronin on nine consecutive pitches.

One of the most interesting and unique characters in baseball. I get a kick out of all the old stories about him from the deadball era.

"Rube" has always been one of my favorite prewar players. I was just talking the other day with my daughters fiance, about the most intimidating pitchers of all time. One look at Rube and you can tell he's loonier than a $hit house rat. Jacob maintained Randy Johnson as the most intimidating. I mention Ryan Duren, with coke bottle shades and a blazing fastball put fear in many a batters heart. Though nothing like the great Rube Waddell!

I don't own this card but this is my favorite Waddell. Good combination of an action pose, colors, and picture quality.

Maybe it is just me but his T206 portrait is kinda creepy. He looks devilish.

I know this is a tangent to this thread, but no list of "most intimidating pitchers of all time" is ever complete without Mr. Bob Gibson. I am intimidated just looking at some of his pictures! :eek:

Amazingly, it's not even the only one in Scott's collection, he posted the Wallace in the pickup thread.

There are three different players that I am aware of. Lajoie, Waddell and Wallace. It would be reasonable to assume ALL 1902 cabinets could have been produced in that format originally and then for some reason quickly changed to the grey/green mount we are familiar with.

I would certainly like to know of(that's code for buy) any others with Green Mounts.
