Portland, Oregon baseball CDV's and tintype

For those who enjoy early material or West Coast memorabilia, here are some of the earliest images of baseball in Portland. The first CDV dates to around 1866-1868, and the other to 1870. They show members of the Portland Pioneer Base Ball Club, the city's first team. The person in the bottom right of the trio sports a faded "PBBC" bib-front jersey. Details on the 1866-1868 Portland baseball CDV and on the 1870 Portland baseball CDV can be found by clicking on the links. Also of interest is a tintype of what is likely an early 1880 era Portland baseball team that is also unusual for its outdoor setting. Wow, those are three spectacular images. Never seen them before.

And the same guy is on both of the CdV's. Is that him standing in the back on the tintype too?

Great images! As we've discussed, early west coast images are quite rare. I've shown this before, but this CdV from New Mexico is the most western one I have.

Excellent stuff! I wonder where they played, as those all pre date anything currently around, Civic Stadium, etc.

Definitely amongst the earliest images of pioneer baseball in the PNW, and great personal stories tied to them. Solid research. A fantastic example of how many pioneers "wore many hats" so to speak; "a centerfielder/fire chief/principal/councilman.", wonder if could also switch-hit?

CDV / tintype

Thanks for the comments. Barry, I don't believe the CDV guy is among the tintype guys, but based on the origin of the trio he was likely connected with them.
