Re-grading question
It seems to me that 3-5 years ago I was able to crack cards out of their cases and resubmit them with a likely chance of the card coming back with a different grade. In the last year or two it seems that they always come back with the same grade, sometimes lower. Is it possible that SGC puts a small infra-red mark on the card that allows them to know if they have graded it before? If they did that, is it OK? At least if I knew they did it, I would stop resubmissions. How much of their new business is resubmissions?
Your thoughts? Paranoid regrader. |
They don't put marks on cards. Maybe their grading has tightened up a little bit. I still see some room between similar grades though...I am going with your "paranoid re-grader" thought.

They don't put an infrared mark on the card, but they do have a camera in your house to watch you crack the cards and package them up to be re-graded. They are watching you right now!;)

Regrading Cards
They MUST do something to visually enter it into their registry. A while ago I tried cracking open an Cycle back card that was graded SGC 60 and submitting it again. Not only did it come back with the same grade, it did not even change the population report. So they must have somehow known it was the same card.

Why should one be surprised if you send the same card to the same company for grading, that it would likely receive the same grade?
I fully understand that a different grade (higher or lower) is a possibility as an element of subjectivity is involved, but that would not be my expectation. I would hope that the grading criteria are applied consistently enough so that the same grade would be a more common occurrence than a different grade. I do not think the equipment shown below is used by the reputable grading companies, but I'm sure some would differ with me. |
how can anyone know for sure if the mark the cards or not?
|
I worked there
They don't. Nor do they keep any scans of submitted cards, except in extremely rare cases of extremely rare cards.

It's crazy to resubmit a card hoping for a higher grade. I have a graded 7 tough card and I think it is over graded. I would like to submit to SGC, but I think it would get a lower grade. So just keeping it.

Who is doing the grading, someone on the first week on the job, last week on the job, a "veteran", someone who left the house after a fight with his wife....you're talking about a human being. Was your card the last one to be graded before punching out and heading for "happy hour"?? Don't forget the human element.

Perhaps "they" are adding something to the cardboard or slabs to keep us addicted?:mad:Dave.

I little part of me hopes they start putting hologram stickers on cards when they grade them.
It will be part of their premium "untamperable" service. |
