Who Is This?

Tried all the BJ's and every other discernible combination I could come up with, but no luck. It's on an OAL Budig ball (1994-99) if that helps narrow things down. Came in a mixed lot with everything from a vintage Stan Musial / "Al" Schoendienst to a 1987 Dodgers team ball to Cal Ripken Jr. to a 1962 Senators ball, so no real context clues there.

Sorry for the lousy photo with my phone. Better photos are forthcoming, but thought I'd put it out there before heading to the garage to spend the rest of the afternoon photographing balls.

I think it is BJ Upton, he of the .165 batting average for the Braves (and $7M salary).

hugginsandscott 06-11-2013 02:54 PM

pretty sure it's BJ Surhoff.

mr2686 06-11-2013 03:08 PM

It's B.J. Surhoff.
Here's an example that looks similar:

Thanks guys, especially Mike for the example. I had quickly scanned through Surhoff, but didn't see anything close enough to make me keep looking at him.

I may have a couple more to ask about later tonight as I continue to shake my fist at these modern signers!

Okay, I am stumped on some more. Hopefully someone will recognize these quickly and save me a couple hours of beating my head against the wall.

First one is Claudell Washington on top, then two I don't know below him. Other panels of this ball have Rickey Henderson and Hensley Meulens.

Rest are from a ball that looks to be either a 1987 or 1988 Dodgers team-signed ball. I would have said straight up 1987, but William Brennan is on there (twice actually). But then, so is Tito Landrum, so my current theory is that it was signed at spring training 1988 prior to Landrum being released on April 4, or that Brennan was around for some reason during the 1987 season.

Under Claudell Washington, I believe are Bobby Meacham and Jeff Moronko...all three on the 87 Yankees.

Here's a couple of examples:

Under Shipley, I think Mark Cresse (bullpen coach) and Brian Holton (pitcher).

MooseDog 06-12-2013 01:19 PM

#5 is Ron Perranoski

As always, thanks for the help guys. It is much appreciated.

#7 looks a bit like Davey Lopes. Retired in 1987 with the Astros.

MooseDog 06-12-2013 07:45 PM

#7 is Danny Heep.

BTW Lance, the book arrived today. Thanks much!

thecatspajamas 06-12-2013 10:32 PM

Thanks Jerry. Glad the book is going to good use as well.
