Why?

Why would you ever pay to have a 1988 Donruss Fernando Valenzuela graded?

And it's a PSA 5.

Matthew H 06-01-2013 12:48 AM

I might bid on that :) He was one of my childhood Heros.

Seattle799 06-01-2013 01:07 AM

Mine too :)

When I was 10 I was a chubby left handed pitcher who wore glasses... guess what my nickname was :)

Someone must have taken him to task for his eBay ID. "Everythingstore, eh?" Well, now that question-asker is surely satisfied.

Leon 06-01-2013 07:11 AM

Maybe they thought it would grade a 6? :)

"Izquierdista Gordo"

?????

Frank, do you mean he was a leftist thinking fat guy or a fat guy who winged the baseball from the port side of the plate? This is a very serious subject!! It could affect the price of the card! Sam Majors ;) ;) ;)

SMPEP 06-01-2013 08:58 AM

It's rare! After all, its hard to find a raw one less than a psa 7.

Julz24 06-01-2013 09:13 AM

About a year ago I picked up a 2000 Topps Griffey Jr card - PSA graded 9

Price??

.99 cents and free ship.....

Fatty Four-eyes?

Well, you did ask, didn't you? :p

Peter_Spaeth 06-01-2013 10:20 AM

I think it's scrap.

Hcom24 06-01-2013 10:47 AM

Low Pop -- 1/1 in PSA 5, only 3 graded higher :)

Jantz 06-01-2013 11:03 AM

That Valenzuela card reminds me of something I read a few years back, where a board member of another baseball card forum wanted to own a card of a player in every grade.

So he was buying/collecting cards so that he would have a complete run of the same player, all the same card, slabbed from A to 10 grades.

If I remember correctly it was a common player from an inexpensive set.

The seller is going to wonder why so many people looked at the auction!

No kidding! 150+ views and no bids on an item starting at $0.99.

I guess the high-rollers won't start the serious bidding until the last 5 minutes. :D

All kidding aside, that is a pretty cool image of Fernando bunting. ;) Same intensity in his face as when he was hurling a fastball.

Matthew H 06-01-2013 01:30 PM

The card is severely undergraded.

travrosty 06-01-2013 01:31 PM

Same reason any card is graded. Why grade any card?

Misguided

I could see if it was a Steve Sax card, but this defies logic :D

the 'stache 06-01-2013 06:16 PM

The Honus Wagner impressed me. The PSA 5 Fernando...? Not so much.

If he's your son.

You are upgrading your PSA 4

You think the supply of 1988 Donruss is drying up.
