T210 identification question
 

So I was browsing through a T210-4 checklist today looking for anyone I could link to a pro team and I noticed a player named Doshmer who was pictured with Point Pleasant in 1910. There aren't any surviving stats or rosters for the 1910 Virginia Valley League nor has there ever been a player named Doshmer according to baseball reference.

The next year though a cup of coffee major leaguer named Lee Dashner played for Point Pleasant. Knowing how badly the T210 set botched some of the names is T210-4 Doshmer actually Lee Dashner?

If someone can find a better pic of T210-4 of Doshmer to use, I'd really appreciate it cause the ebay one is trashed and isn't close enough

That's definitely the same person in the two pics.

I sold a nicer doshmer on ebay a couple months back but the image is not there anymore. Maybe from VCP?

Dashner was 17-16 and a WHIP of 1.257(Who does these stats?) w/ Point Pleasant in 1911. I'd vote it's the same player. Good find, Jack.

Yea the fact the T210-4 player is Left handed helps as well as Dashner was a left handed pitcher.

He played for Topeka from 1914-1916...anyone have any team photos from the Topeka team in those years handy?

In case you didn't know or remember (or for others out there), Lew Lipset's Encyclopedia identifies those T210 players who made the Bigs. While perhaps not infallible or complete, the list includes Doshmer/Dashner as one who made it. Other 4th series Big Show guys (per Lew): Johnson, Mollenkamp, and Pick.

You are right. Lipset already has this player indicated on page 72 of Volume 3. It's amazing how much information is in the Lipset books.

I thought he was having his last auction, but hopefully he is having many more.

Well that's one more book I'll need to get my hands on. I just noticed how few players made it from the 4 set seeing on how it was a D league.

If anyone still has the encyclopedia around, which Johnson is it, is T210-7 Wolf, Goldsboro listed as Ernie Wolf and is either Mills from series 3 or series 7 listed as Jack Mills?

He doesn't list first names. Johnson in series 4 played for Charleston--there are no records for the 1910 team on Baseball reference so I don't know how he tied that player to a Big League roster or what Johnson is intended.

He does not indicate that either Series 3 (Shreveport) or Series 7 (Wilson) Mills made the Bigs, and since Jack Mills did either Lew missed it or these other guys are not Jack (BBRef has OMills playing for Shreveport in 1910 and Jack Mills not playing anywhere in 1910). Same with Ernie Wolf--Lew does not have him as making the majors. BBRef does not have Ernie anywhere in 1910.

FWIW-- Lew has the number of major leaguers from each T210 Series: Series 1 (7); Series 2 (14); Series 3 (25); Series 4 (4); Series 5 (8); Series 6 (9); Series 7 (5) and Series 8 (61). You might want to land a copy of the book--me too, as mine is tattered, dog-eared, marked up and I'm on my third copy.

Yea that matches the research I did when I was trying to figure out obscure Cleveland Indian players. I'm almost certain that the T210 Wolf is Ernie Wolf as I don't believe any other Wolf was in the region and Goldsboro and Anderson are at the same level and next to each other. Add in the fact that the T210-7 Wolf is that of a someone in his very early 20s (matching up well with Ernie Wolf at 21) and is a right handed player

The giant ears help. The T209-2 of Wolf could seal it but unfortunately, it's one of the missing ones that may not exist
