Help with a Nap
As much as I could use a nap, what I need help with is about this Nap Lajoie. A friend found this at a local (to him) shop. He knows I collect old cards so he sent me this picture. He knows nothing about cards so all I have to go on is this photo. It is a Sweet Cap. I don't know if the white spot is a reflection or on the card. At this point I don't know the condition of the back or the bottom left corner.
My friend said he's go back and get it for me and ask any questions i send him with. Does it look good from what can be seen? What can a guy with little knowledge of the subject be easily instructed to be on the look out for? <a href="http://s1199.photobucket.com/user/abothebear/media/Screenshot2013-05-21at100158AM_zps86c1cf03.png.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa471/abothebear/Screenshot2013-05-21at100158AM_zps86c1cf03.png" border="0" alt=" photo Screenshot2013-05-21at100158AM_zps86c1cf03.png"/></a> |
Lajoie in shop
To me, I don't really see the upside in buying a fairly common T206 like this thru a non-collector friend at a local shop. The card looks just fine to me, but it would probably grade SGC 10 or A. If your friend could get it for $50-$75 maybe it's worth it, but my experience is that when a shop has a card like this, they price it way too high.
I would wait for one to show up on ebay at no reserve, like this one... www.ebay.com/itm/370808390030 Good Luck |
Yeah, I agree. But in this case the price is within the range you mentioned. :)

The scan is a bit blurry but I don't see anything indicating it's not real. Always better to see in person....
|
that is a really nice card ... i love the little strip of blue in the middle, as it completes the sunset perfectly!
|
Looks like a tack hole in the top center. What's hidden under the tag and how's the back look - would be two more questions. Maybe worth the risk at $40-50.
|
Good catch on the possible tack hole. I'll definitely have him check that out.

It looks a little fishy up close. the name is very dark, I have a hard time thinking that it could be brown. And the corner wear looks funny, like it is the wrong kind of paper. Pics posted in a sec.

what do y'all think?

One last try to get some expert eyes on this one.
To review: a friend who knows nothing about old cards found this at an antique store. He sent me pictures to see if I'd want to make a offer on it through him. The new pics show clearly that there is indeed a pin hole, and small paper loss. But now I wonder about the color of the font and some of the paper characteristics. Is it legit enough for a $25 - $35 offer? Or with the poor condition is it not worth the risk? Thanks! George |
For a legit Lajoie, even with a pinhole $25- 35 is a good price.
