Depression era photos
Following from Ben's recent pre-Black Tuesday photo thread, I thought it might be worthwhile to start a thread for some of our favourite photos from the depression era. To start, here are three of mine:
Some of the Yankees lined-up in a mock identity parade at Boston Police Department, 1931. Included are Lazzeri, Combs and Hoyt. http://i926.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps6a8e3fa9.jpg Babe Ruth at bat, game 4 in the 1932 World Series @ Chicago: http://i926.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps03d40e5b.jpg This isn't a photo but, rather, a negative which I purchased at Legendary Auctions last year. From April 1933, it pictures Warneke in addition to Yankee HoF-ers Dickey, Lazzeri but being by Ruth with "All-America Board" certificates. I love this image due to the differing facial expressions of all four, none of whom look particularly enamoured to be having their photo taken: http://i926.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps1f60639d.jpg |

Sept. 28, 1930... BABE RUTH WINS!
Below is an ORIGINAL TYPE 1 photo of Babe Ruth pitching one of his 5 games as a Yankee hurler(4TH). He pitched a complete game and got the win. He was a perfect 5-0 as a Yankee pitcher(5of5). This one was his only appearance outside of Yankee stadium. It was against the Boston Red Sox which is pretty cool. The game was played at Braves field; not Fenway(because it held more peeps?? There appears to be a lot of emty seats. IDK exactly why in was not in Fenway).
Although times were tough, it looks like the Babe was well fed. :) http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...pse51c05bf.jpg |
