Unknown Ruth card?
2 Attachment(s)
A brand new member sent this to me asking what it is. I told him I am a type collector and don't recognize it but my guess is it will be a newer, modern-type issue. Any help will be appreciated...

Looks like an artificially aged 1980-90's collectors issue. Stylistically that back looks to be from that date range. I don't recall seeing this particular card but there were so many collectors issues during that time.

I have no idea what it is. But I'd agree it's more modern. I'd guess 1960's at the very earliest. Looks newer than that to me by the fonts used on the back. Maybe 1970's or 80's or a very new fantasy piece made to look old. I have no idea but would be shocked if it was 1950's or earlier....

Looks a little like that left edge is perforated as if to be torn out of a page. "Dover" like print qualities. So many "collector" books came out in the 80s and 90s....someone here knows for sure I bet. Dave.

No idea, reminds me of modernish Japan style trying to appear as if it were earlier. If the question is pre or post, as opposed to type, then the forehead hairline, eyebrows and that pseudo scroll at the bottom that bears Ruth's sacred name turn me off. LOL, I'm likely wrong about everything.

I have never seen a ruth card like that and i have searched ruth cards for a while. From the look i would guess its a 1970 at best. But could of easily of been made last week. I would also guess it could be a home made card. There is no marking of a company brand or ad and its not in the known ruth card check list.

Nice eyebrows! lol

I think if this were posted on the post war side, someone would recognize it.
I think it's an 80s or later card. |
There are similarities on the front to the '37 Kellogs Pep Cereal stamps. Kellogs does not have their brand on the stamps either. Removed from a box top or panel of two-three cards from inside a box? I wouldn't be surprised if it's '60's or '90's but I'm leaning towards vintage.

From a typography standpoint I would bet that this is a 1970's or newer card. Strange that no one would put a name on the bottom or advertising if it is a give-away. When I was doing work for the Babe Ruth Museum in Baltimore around 2000 I remember seeing a card the museum gave away with a similar back, but for the life of me I can't remember what the front looked like, but I don't think this is it.
