Honus Wagner on eBay

Is there a story behind this particular listing of a T206 Honus Wagner on eBay? It just showed up this afternoon. Possibly the seller is on this board even. Just curious if this was a known event or a publicized listing in advance. Just a couple of days ago someone asked if these ever showed up on eBay...I guess the answer is yes.

JollyRoger 05-07-2013 05:35 PM

Wow! I'm anxious to see the results of this auction.

KCRfan1 05-07-2013 05:36 PM

You would think the seller could show an image of the back of the card.....

arc2q 05-07-2013 05:39 PM

Lou, I thought that odd also. And the fact that it will be shipped USPS Parcel. Why no courier or Express shipment?

Bocabirdman 05-07-2013 05:40 PM

He has a Wagner and a Plank included in 6 listings....Things that make ya go hmmmm?:D

conor912 05-07-2013 05:43 PM

Wow. That listing looks like crap. Who in their right mind would consign that card with these bozos?

Bocabirdman 05-07-2013 05:44 PM

Has anybody looked at the stuff he has sold? I know if I had a Plank and a Wagner, I would let a Disney vendor sell it on eBay. What would the fees be on those two?

esquiresports 05-07-2013 05:51 PM

Having such different scans/photos for each listing (one photo without flash, one photo with flash, one scan with black background, one scan with white background) would make me very nervous. That and, as pointed out, if you look at seller's prior auctions, the sales consist about 90% of Disney items.

Rob D. 05-07-2013 05:59 PM

The Plank was in an auction that ended April 21:

I would pass even if I had the cash for that card...one ugly Wagner....of course in my opinion!!!

What makes you think it's consigned?

travrosty 05-07-2013 06:13 PM

i dont think it looks that bad because the face of wagner is spared from any creasing. of course its listed on ebay because it has a high start price, thus no risk is taken as far as it going for a song. if you put a high start price and someone bites and the sale goes through, why not list it?

Cardboard Junkie 05-07-2013 06:17 PM

I agree with Travis, it's a nice looking Wags to me. I would have to see the back....paper loss is a deal breaker to me.

Zone91 05-07-2013 06:23 PM

I have seen a lot better low graded examples....to spend that kind of money (and that is a whole lot of money) I would prefer waiting for a nicer looking PSA 1.

And you guys no I am impulsive but not at that price!!!

This is the Connecticut Wagner and here is the reverse.

Zone91 05-07-2013 06:38 PM

Looks like you could blow on it and the card would fall apart...like dust in the wind!!!

It's nicer than the one I sold "way back when".

Cardboard Junkie

Yes but now at the price it is at in 2013 one should buy the best PSA 1 they can find and not rush in....again this from a impulsive buyer.

ullmandds 05-07-2013 06:54 PM

its a decent wags...I'd take it!!!!! Probably purchased by a wealthy person who reads too many articles about t206 wagner never going down in value in mainstream publications like new yorker!

Overpriced by 1/3 maybe?!

Craig M 05-07-2013 06:56 PM

The seller is someone who reads this forum. He knows what he is doing!

Do you want to make an easy $50K per year?

Buy a Wagner (PSA1) @ $280K, wait three years and sell it for $150K more than you you purchased it at. It's better than the stock market for sure.

As ridiculous as this sounds; it is not far from the truth.

+1 It looks like a pretty nice PSA 1 to me.

botn 05-07-2013 07:03 PM

The seller's name is Jason and as of 2012 he was affiliated with JP Cohen's Memory Lane Inc.

ullmandds 05-07-2013 07:05 PM

i stand corrected...how much did it recently sell for?

Craig M 05-07-2013 07:23 PM

$282K exactly three years ago.

mrvster 05-07-2013 07:54 PM

it's a beauty

palpatations...palpatations:o

deadballfreaK 05-07-2013 08:00 PM

A 50% profit on the Plank wouldn't be bad after three whole weeks.

Just a hunch, though I could be wrong. I would hope that anyone with the cash to buy it and flip it would take the time to make a nice presentation. Economy shipping, no back scan and an obvious cut and paste job in the description.....cut corners all around. Just not someone I'd send a half million dollars to, that's all.

bbcard1 05-07-2013 08:33 PM

I aspire to own a plank about like that one day...I would love to have a Wags, but would probably prefer a patio home in a nice little resort area, assuming I ever have a spare $400K laying around. As a general rule, it's hard to lose money on a Wagner, but that one could be a candidate.

Yeah, the presentation sure isn't REA quality:D.

I think the current price may not be too far out of line. If you're looking for a PSA 1 (or equivalent) that presents better, you may be waiting a very long time. The last one i could find was the beckett wagner from 5 years ago. ($317,000). Petsonally I think the one in REA currently doesn't present as nicely as the one on ebay and the REA one is already pushing $400,000 with the buyers premium. If you think about a nicer one, the last two 2's have sold for over $650 each.

Shoele$$ 05-07-2013 11:06 PM

I say we all go in on it and it becomes the Net54 Wagner......:D

We'll do paper, scissors, rocks at the National to see who gets to keep it at their house ;)

Who's in?

EvilKing00 05-08-2013 04:02 AM

wow, you dont see this every day huh. For what it is its not too bad, though I would never spent that kind of money on anything but real estate.

Ronnie73 05-08-2013 04:37 AM

There were a couple posts referencing the Connecticut Wagner as this card but T206Resource.com shows this as a card not surfacing since its last sale 11 years ago. There's a back scan there too. I'd post it but im writing this from my phone right now.

Powell 05-08-2013 05:51 AM

I consigned it to Jason. It is the Connecticut Wagner.

Wow, Good Luck I hope you get the $$$ you want out of the sale.....

I love the look of this Wagner. The condition would fit perfectly with my monster.

Always wondered which Wagner put you atop the Monster Number list:)

I Only Smoke 4 the Cards 05-08-2013 09:55 AM

I think the price is fair. If I had the funds I would pick it up and hold it for a few years.

Hi Dave. I didn t work on a Plank Gallery but on T206resource, you will see a beautifull Plank Galery.
Here is the link for the Galery :
http://t206resource.com/PlankSales.html

Now the link of the Paragon auction of the Ebay psa 2 plank
http://www.paragonauctionsite.com/Lo...ventoryid=2245

And now the ebay link for the same card:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/161022569343...9#ht_523wt_735

Same seller of the Wagner. Probably a consign card too.

There is no such thing as an ugly T206 Wagner.

Powell 05-08-2013 12:06 PM

Yes. Both are my cards. Thought about selling my Plank psa 6 and got the 2 to still have one. I want to sell one of the Planks -- don't really want to sell Wags but if a buyer shows up it's gone and I will try to get another one someday.

Exactly! I don't know what Adrian is expecting, but for a PSA 1 that's a pretty nice looking Wagner....could be much worse. It's a great looking card for the price. I'd probably come in a little lower but I think the price is almost right for the condition IMO.

I know if I had the funds available, I would make a strong run at it.

I agree. The asking price is too high. The REA Wagner ("The All Star Café Wagner") is a somewhat better looking PSA 1 in my opinion and the bidding on that one is currently at $330,000.00.

I'd still put in a fair offer on the Connecticut Wagner (eBay) if I had that kind of cash.

Adrian? Want to put in $200K and I'll put in $25K and we'll call it even? :D :p

True the "all star wagner" is better looking, but we don't know how high it's gonna end at.

I'd be surprised in the REA Wagner hits $500K. Who knows. There could be a last minute bidding war. I've been wrong before, just ask my wife!

p.s. Just curious. Do we have the sell price history posted anywhere on T206 Wagners?

Good luck with the cards. It's always nice to free up some funds to pursue other things.

MVSNYC 05-08-2013 06:55 PM

That's a nice looking PSA 1 Wagner. not sure either what Zone is talking about.

Good luck with the sale Powell.

Powell 05-08-2013 09:28 PM

I appreciate the kind comments. I hope to have a baseball memorabilia museum in Michigan highlighted by the wall of T-206's currently 4 on the PSA Registry. I hope to encourage young people to collect vintage cards. This is an awesome board and I have learned a lot from many of you.
