Well made my 1st ever bid with REA auctions on a used baseball bat

It will look good over my fire place (no I never use it it is a gas fire place).

frankbmd 05-05-2013 05:39 PM

Hope it's a 1934 bat from St. Louis.

Requires a little thought.

Zone91 05-05-2013 05:49 PM

No it is the:

Lot # 1314: ''1939 Baseball Hall of Fame "Opening Day" Commemorative Bat''

It is at 350$ so far but I am NOT worried...I will win it!!!

What lot # where you referring to?

Peter_Spaeth 05-05-2013 05:53 PM

Imagine if everyone started a thread to announce a bid he had placed.

HercDriver 05-05-2013 05:54 PM

Got it

Frank --

I think your message sailed past a pulled in infield...

Potentially a true test of character should the consigner ever get wind of that comment.

I thought all serious buyers announced what they're bidding on?

Zone91 05-05-2013 05:57 PM

I have my limit in mind and it is not very high (once it is passed I will simply forget about the bat and move on) so he can do what he wants if I lose it so be it no big deal!!! There are tons of other nice finds in the auction that I will keep for myself.

Leon

My mistake I will no longer say what I bid on in advance!!! Like I said I set a very low amount for it so if I lose it no big deal!!! I will not be increasing my limit set on it!!!

Oh, that's not me Andrew. That guy has way more hair than I do. :) Just having some fun. Just be careful..We know it was your first bid in REA and all but generally speaking folks don't announce their bids during an auction. However, I guess there is really no rule against it. Good luck in the auction.

Zone91 05-05-2013 06:11 PM

Leon

I have about 10 items I want (and this bat is at the very bottom of my want list) so if out of 10 I get a single one I will be happy!!!:) And if not better luck next time around as they say!!!

The bat is not my top priority there are many many nice bats up for sale....and also on Heritage auctions...so no biggy!!!

Not a big deal but your post #3 ("I will win it") seems to say otherwise. Some advice I think 99% here will give you is to not tell before you kiss.

Edited to add: Not hating on you, just giving some advice I think will help in the long run.

You are right but since it is out of the bag I will pass on the bat if it goes over my low limit on it and simply move on...my mistake!!!

Adrian strikes me as a sort of "idiot savant", where we will all ridicule him for buying cards at too high a price, and then they will all quintuple in value... or he will announce what he is bidding on, but instead of attracting other bidders, it scares everyone away and he gets the item very inexpensively.

It is as if he has some sort of supernatural power alongside him that makes all his purchases work out against expectation.

rhettyeakley 05-05-2013 07:36 PM

I just hope Adrian realizes that Auctions actually require payment at some point, and they tend to frown when one changes their mind. :)

Leon will tell you all my purchases are paid for. So please do no doubt me. I pay...I had to use Echecks since I owed well over 20 000$ (My credit card does not allow such a high amount)...hence the longer wait to be paid...but they are all paid.

I had a few doubts about what card I would buy for my 1st ever 10 000$ + card so I made a change or two no big deal and no bad feelings since it was the same seller. If I had been offered a Babe Ruth rookie card I would have NOT changed my mind a single time and I do not mean the 1914 Baltimore news I can't afford such a card!!!

Well, you got a sweet Mantle card, I'll say that much... it was a steal at that price.

I don't mean you are really an idiot, just that your purchases are unorthodox but maybe work out better than one would expect. Good luck in REA!!!

Adrian, it's good to hear everything worked out. As insane and cringe-worthy as your Net54 story has been so far, I was rooting for your coin sale to go through.

Zone91 05-05-2013 08:20 PM

cyseymour

Thanks...I think I made out well and very much enjoy the cards I purchased....including the high priced 1 of 4 known T206 Red Murray error card....I may have paid a little much but with only 4 known and it been a T206 card I know it will sell if ever I do sell the card that is.

I know my story is very strange BUT also very very true!!!

No bad feelings I would have had doubts as well.

I think this is the maximum I can post for today so take care guys!!!

Peter_Spaeth 05-05-2013 08:33 PM

Kind of like Dmitri Young.

BigJJ 05-17-2013 04:01 PM

Im cracking up regarding announcing bidding. Love it.
Adrian, are you going to the National? You would love it.

Zone91 05-17-2013 04:09 PM

BigJJ

Only in 2014 I have to many obligations this year (I am putting a big chunk of money onto my mortgage so I will need to save up). Looks like a lot of fun I will for sure make it next year. I want to buy a Ruth rookie so next year would be best for me to save up and enjoy myself like a kid over there. I rather buy a Ruth rookie in person and fly it back down to Canada myself...I did the 52 Topps Mantle threw mail and it is to hard on the nerves!!!
