Are you a set collector or a top 10 cards collector
After the top10 colltion thread i have the idea to do a poll for know what kind of collector you are :
A set collector or a tops 10 collector. A top 10 collector is a collector who buy cards from many different set and build a collection of only his favorite cards doesnt matter of the serie.. Fir my part, since i start in baseball cards i can said i was a set collector but after a years i start change my mind... All my life i was a top10 collector and i think to move my collection in a near futur in a top10 collection |
Definitely a top 10 collector for the most part, I am however trying to tackle a major set at the moment, we'll see how far I get, lol.
|
100% a top 10 at the moment I will most likely try to complete a set once the rarer are out of the way.
|
Both. I have a list of 100 attainable cards I want to own by my 40th B-day and am currently working three sets with plans for my next 3-5 sets.
|
I've nearly completed two sets, and now occasionally pick up a nice card in an unrelated set.
And I may do more of this approach in REA auction. |
Hi Nelson,
Thanks for posting this poll. I am a set collector, by nature. Wish I had the resources to chase down my top ten cards. They have been mentioned on this board many times. For example, there is the T206 Wagner (and the Plank...great card you have there.) Best Regards, Eric |
NEITHER - I collect type cards and cards of certain players. So, I didn't vote.

i like to collect sets...hopefully i'll get my top 10 cards while working on them!
|
Both
How about both? I am primarily a set collector, but also collect one-offs of cards that I like where I have no intention of collecting the whole set.

I don't fit into either category, so didn't vote either... I just collect what I like/want and there are many many more than 10 on that list:D
|
As of today, I am a set, player, type and HOF collector. We will see what tomorrow brings.

Thx for your participation !
I just realize since couple week, when i look at my cards, i dont really look at my t206 common ... i almost always look my key cards my 'top 10' cards...it is the reason why i think about perhaps switch my collecting focus. Continue to vote and post everyone thx Ps: when i said top 10, it can be top 20 30 50 100 1000 ... |

I did start a pre-war type collection a little almost 2 years ago. I trick myself into thinking it is a set by aiming for 100 different types, although I have more than one example of some of my favorite sets..........So that probably loosely fits your description of top ten collector. At the end of the day, if a card in my collection doesn't fit within some set or subset I've defined no matter how loosely, then it has to go.... it's just the way I am :) sometimes it's a curse:( but it's all good :D |
I guess I'm a little of each...but more so a collector of cards I like and want to own...I no longer have any rules!!!!!!
My E94 set is the largest set I've completed vintage-wise...I'm going after a 19th c set...but is much smaller. I have a handful of "projects" some of which may lead to set collecting...but I doubt it...commons are just that...common!!!! |
Set collector. Definitely.
I'm presently working on two sets. 2013 Topps Heritage, and the T-201's. One more readily available than the other.... |
HOF Auto 'rookie' set...
|
After a lengthy Top 10 phase, I'm now focusing more on set building. I'll always be both, though.
|
I voted as a top ten guy, but only to show i dont collect full sets.
I am a YANKEE collector and try to put together Yankee team sets from the early 1900's thru now. I also try to get as many different old Yankee cards (pre-1970, particulalry pre-WWII) as possible, not always worrying about trying to complete a team set in those cards. Years ago i used to be a set collector, and found that having tons of commons of guys who dont intrest me was no fun. |
Both, while I always seem to be working on a set or two, I've recently started focusing on more individual cards or subsets, like T206 HOF'rs.
|
I'd have to say both. I have a few sets I'm working on and in the meantime have a few individual cards I want to have for my PC as well as my collection of HOF autos.

Always have been and always will be a set collector...excluding cards from childhood, I have less than a couple dozen cards that dont belong in sets. This would be one of them, but I may want to do the Kashins someday.

I'm a compulsive set collector generally working on about a dozen prewar sets at any one time. I acquire very few cards that don't fit into one of my sets.

I'm a little of both. I like to have my cards fit into some type of set, but I don't really want to own thousands of common cards. I'm more of a set collector by nature, but I have a top 20 list of cards that fall outside my sets. Currently, I'm working on the e95s and 1935 Goudey sets. A large part of their appeal to me is that they are small, and packed with stars. I'm also working on the T206 HOFer subset, but I've put my pursuit of the rest of the set on hold for the time being. At the moment, I find myself more inclined to spend $200 on a t207, caramel card, or CJ of a HOFer, than on 8 VG t206 commons.

HOF collector. One period card of each inductee. I consider that a 300 card "set." Thus, I have no idea how to vote in this poll?
