Is this a fake t206?
|
Yes sir.
|
But does it count as fake if they didn't even TRY to make it look real?
|
Yes. That is a pretty sad effort.
|
How can anyone sell this junk as "original"?
Maybe I should buy it and send him monopoly money as payment. :D |
That's just a rare blue backed SC. A simple search would have told the seller it was a fake. Smh:(

While we're on the subject, can some of you give me your opinion on this card? I found it in my grandfather's attic, or else at an estate sale. Or maybe I got it from some guys named Cobb and Edwards, I'm not sure. I thought it was a great deal, but now I'm starting to think it might also be fake. Let me know what you think.
Also, I'm willing to trade it for a 1933 Lajoie, so PM me if you are interested. Attachment 96110 |

This Honus Wagner was listed last night -- possibly this has been discussed on the board before. This checks all the boxes:
- Dubious origins (supposedly found in an estate sale) - Graded by a questionable grading company (is SCE a real grading company) - Seller with only three prior auctions - no complete photos - no refunds - the best is that he'll mail it to you First Class -- can't even spring for Priority Sadly, it is getting bids on it of considerable value. http://www.ebay.com/itm/111053914427...#ht_101wt_1141 |

There is another thread about this clown. He is selling a fake 1952 Topps Mantle rookie.
As annoying as these jerks are, I can't help but wonder what idiots expect to get a $250,000 card for $500 from a seller with a zero feedback rating as a seller? |

Speaking of fakes, here's one that I bought in 1990 when I was a complete newbie to tobacco card collecting: |
Sean, thanks. I am new to this board. Just getting back into T-card collecting after a several year absence. This time I am going to take it more seriously and make it my life's goal to actually complete the the T-206 set. This is more aspirational than anything else (I'm only about 5% of the way), although my wife is supportive so that is a start.
I am excited to be an active poster -- this appears to be a very frequently updated and informative forum. I enjoy the banter and the information has been supremely helpful already. I did not intend for my first post to be about a faker on eBay -- although I do have other questions to ask about that. I probably should have posted an introductory message. Thanks, Andy |
Don't worry, I didn't introduce myself until I had posted for three months. I'm curious: how do you define completing the T206 set? 518, 520, 524, or some other number of cards? :)
|
Sean, that's funny, my wife asked the same question yesterday. I have no illusion I'll ever own a Wagner, Plank, Magie, etc. So I guess that would be 520. But also I don't know if I can shell out the money for the other two (is the difference between 518 and 520 the two St. Louis Browns variations?). So I would be happy with 518 -- to clarify I have many years to go I hope so this is purely aspirational.
So, for now at least, it is 518. What would that be called? T206 Complete Set Light? |
518 excludes the St Louis Browns Demmitt and the St Louis Cardinals O'Hara. And I guess you can call it a complete set light if you want.
|
That Chance is legit, maybe trimmed (??)...with a nice printers mark on the bottom as well.
|
For those keeping score, the fake Honus Wagner listing has already been removed. I am sure it will reppear in a few days with the always interesting descriptor: "I am selling as a reprint" or, better yet, "a novelty card." As if this removes any culpability for passing off a fake as potentially real.

The card is wider than standard. It measures 1-1/2" by 2-5/8", which makes this card wider than the standard 1-7/16". The card's borders don't show the white but more a of an off-white colour. The surface is rougher than my other T206 cards. KSA looked at it 10 years ago and didn't slab it due to concerns over authenticity. KSA's expertise, however, is/was hockey and their grading standards for the most part don't compare to a company like PSA or SGC. Perhaps that's why I have kept this card all these years. I'll ship it off to PSA for a final verdict. |
chance is ok but burch is a fake, fake, fake!!
