Another Unexpected Find...
1 Attachment(s)
OK, so last weekend I take the Missus out for some antiquing. She's looking for old lace tablecloths. Me, I'm now looking for old cardboard. (Thanks in part to you guys.) I didn't find anything worth mentioning, until I walked into this old coin shop. He didn't have any cards, but he did have this piece of artwork.
This thing is big - 4' wide and 5' high, hanging in his shop. This piece looks like it is well executed. There are various pre-war cards pictured here. Apparently the shop owner used to have a baseball card shop, and he commissioned two of these paintings. The other was of signed baseballs. He sold that one to a sports announcer upstate somewhere. This one is dated 1989, and signed by the artist. He said he would sell it pretty reasonably. The artist also did motion picture artwork. That is about all I know about the piece. I like te piece, but as my wife just pointed out, I have no place to hang it, so I thought of you guys. I don't know the shop owner, and I have no interest, financial or otherwise in the piece. I do think it would make a great companion piece to some of the elaborate card displays I've seen here on the forum though. In any case, If anyone is interested drop me a PM and I will forward you this guys shop address and phone number and you can take it from there. The shop is in New York, on the Hudson River, about 50 miles north of New York City. If I stumble on anymore unique quality stuff that appears to be appropriate for this forum, I will be sure to pass it on. You guys were a great help to me when I first joined. I'm just trying to return the favor... Doug |
Doesn't do much for me. But, keep hunting! :) Dave.

Doug, thanks for posting. I don't have the room either but I live in NYC and may turn your posting into a fun scavenger hunt. Ill drive up rt.9 along the Hudson and at around 50 miles ill start looking around. I love exploring that area in the spring anyway!
Thanks for thinking of your fellow collectors! Peter |
Sounds like fun - I can give you a hint or two if you want!
