t206 green cobb does this look funny to anyone else?

Just saw this listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/190911-T206-...5#ht_25wt_1142

Does this look funny to anyone else. I don't know the seller though his previous sales look legit and his other scans look similar to this. Maybe its nothing.

Seems like all of his listings have similar scans that appear very light. I would say legit, just terrible scans.

sportscardpete 04-11-2013 10:07 AM

It's definitely the scan. The scans alone will cost him $$ though.

Cardboard Junkie 04-11-2013 10:12 AM

It looks kinda fishy to me. Cobb and Detroit look black? Could just be the scan though. Dave.

Funny Ha ha or funny peculiar?

The fact that PSA gave this a 4 does surprise me. It looks like a 2 or 3 at best. I have PSA 4 cards that look two grades higher than this one. I verified the certification number at the PSA site and it says "T206 UNKNOWN BACK" for brand. Clearly looks like a Sweet Cap back so is this an error in the PSA database? I'd ask PSA to investigate.

I'm talking about the scan, not the grade. The lettering appears way off.

That is what it says for any card graded prior to PSA keeping track of the backs.

The font looks black. Major red flag there but could be a bad scan. The flip label looks fishy almost like it was photoshopped over the real flip label. I would ask for additional pics before bidding. The slab also looks dirty in places like accumulated dirt around the edges and inside near the card. Everything points to "stay away".

bigwinnerx 04-11-2013 10:21 AM

It's almost like he scanned it and ran an edge sharpener filter over it in Photoshop. Blacks are wayyy to saturated.

I agree there is something off about the text at the bottom, but it is possible that the seller used the text at the bottom to set his contrast. If the seller told the software to make that text the darkest part it could cause a blowout of color like seen in the scan. The scan though can also cover up other flaws or things so this is still a mystery card when someone buys it.

iwantitiwinit 04-11-2013 10:23 AM

Agreed. Anyone know the seller?

Really? Ok, in that case I'll just say the card is way over-graded. It is not worthy of a 4. If it is then I've got a bunch of 4s that deserve 6's and 7s.

The name and team don't normally turn brown to black when scanned in my experience. I could be wrong and the scan darken only that part of the image but I wouldn't touch it.

Sometimes scanning in the document setting will do stuff like that. I've done it by accident and the results are really awful.

Of course when I do that I redo the scan and delete the bad one. I can't imagine using one that bad to sell anything, let alone anything valuable.
