1920's SF Seals Jersey on Ebay

Curious if anyone here won it and can provide details of what they think it is exactly.

I could see photos from mid 20's to early 30's of the uniform style

Very cool, heck that was just up the road a piece!

Any chance this was a reuse of a sox uniform?

Giants00 04-09-2013 11:50 AM

for sure not a red sox. Wilson label is a clue that it is local not Red Sox.

Highly unlikely its a White Sox jersey either. That Wilson tag on the jersey is circa 1920s and not the 30s. The pants tag is circa 1930s.

Don't the letters look too clean and bright? looks like they were sewn on yesterday.

Something about this item just doesn't seem "right." Could this possibly be a modern repro made for a film's wardrobe or something, with a couple old Wilson labels from say an old baseball mitt sewn on (along with the Seals insignia) to give the illusion of a vintage item? I note that the labels say "Athletic Equipment" rather than "clothing," don't know enough to say if this matters. Would love to hear from the uni experts on this one.

Oddly

the original seller and the re-seller are both from the San Francisco area....things that make you go "hmmmmmmmm"

Wow, and if I am not mistaken, same photos. The piping and the logo look restored. This is curious!

Not a uniform expert, but the Wilson label looks wierd. Why would they stitch through the "S" in sporting and "S" in goods? My guess is the Wilson label was removed from another item (possibly a glove), damaged to the point of threadbare, then re-stitched onto this garment. Why the hand-sewn "40"? Is that the length of the garment, or uniform number (probably not from the 20's with a uniform #)? Too many questions to make an offer, but an interesting piece.

Can someone please post pictures? I can not pull up eBay at work, also I could see someone searching the archives for this type item and full disappointment when the eBay link is dead.
