Interesting Storage for Cards
 

I know there are many display threads and many 'how do you store your cards' threads.

What I would like to see is interesting storage pieces as I would like to buy or make one in the future.

If you have something unique or different, post it!

I keep the graded ones in this table I made. I have a few more than when I took the picture, but it's nowhere near full.

The rest are in various holders in the usual cardboard boxes. Some on shelves I made, some on a shelf someone else made for I think a stereo but it happens to fit three shoebox boxes across just fine.

Shameless plug - I have a small box I made in the T card BST that will fit graded cards. All oak and very solid.

In the process of building a house and will finally get an office to display some of these. Commons in cigar boxes , the rest at the bank.

The Oliva boxes fit PSA&SGC quite well.

Steve, nice! It strikes me that could be a deterrent from theft as well. I'm no expert woodworker, but I have the tools. I might try to make something.

That table is ingenious!

This is a flat-file-type cabinet, others have refered to it as an apothecary cabinet. It had several spools of thread in it when I bought it. Also one of the drawers had the name of a law office written or stamped on the bottom. Googled that and found a practice of the same name from the 20's. I found it at a local antique store and am still on the look out for various things of this nature and cool boxes perfect for cards similar to Chris's cigar boxes or Steve's card table.

Custom Display Cabinet
 

Not 'vintage baseball' but I'm pretty proud of this anyway and wanted to show it off. I had it made about three years ago. Solid mahogany, four drawers, and a nice area at the top for display.
-Edited to add: The logo on the front door is inlayed. Mother of pearl for the helmet and a few other materials were used for the rest.

I grew up in Wisconsin and my bedroom closet, where I stored my cards, was adjacent to the garage. My cards were cold tempered all winter. I can attest that gold temperature didn't damage the cards.

A curious byproduct of all this is my favorite player is Robin Yount.

I always wanted to get a library card cabinet to store my cards

Love the idea/concept Jay. I've been looking for an antique set of apothecary drawers to repurpose for card storage, or build my own set incorporated into a desk.

Love the card catalog idea. Years ago when I was a avid in person autograph collector I used one. Would organize by team with each getting its own file. Sold it in a move really wish I had held onto it for graded cards.

About 25-30 years ago I picked 3 display cases. These are thought to be from the Downtown Hudson Store on Woodward Ave and held fur coats at one time. They are BIG!!!!! 7 feet long by 6 feet high by 35 inches deep. They have glass doors at each end that have locks. Solid wood and heavy. I have moved these cases 4 times. I am considering selling 2 of the cases because i have thinned out my collection of cards and memoribilia. I have 2 glass shelves in each case. If I do sell the cases they would have to be picked up in Michigan. 2-3 man job with large truck or trailer. Anyone with interest PM me. I will probably put them on BST board also.

I picked a few of these trays up a short time ago at a discount store (all that they had) for under $3.00 a piece, and thought they would store my cards real nice. They are sturdy, made of metal with plastic sides with handles, and have a classy copper finish and interesting design. They are just wide enough for the normal card sleeves and PSA holders (sorry SGC'ers, they are not wide enough for your holders). Certainly an upgrade from cardboard boxes.

Funny thing is, the very next day I went to breakfast at IHOP (had to get some French Toast in me), and low and behold the same exact tray was holding all the little bottles of syrups on the table. So next time you are there, bring some of your cards along and see how nice they fit...just make sure that you remember that cards are not pancakes.

That's a nice old card catalog! I got one from the library my mother worked for a few years ago. The newer ones have rods to keep the cards from being removed. And totally don't work for cards unless you take all those rods out and put the cards sideways.

On the plus side, it still has all the library cards which were typed by local inmates at one point. So some of the cards are a bit messed up. Inmate humor I guess.

That one would certainly hold alot of cards. Also I like the hardware much better on that one than on mine.

I recently bought the one in the photo. It has 4 library card drawers (without the rods) on top, with a large drawer on the bottom. The bottom drawer may not be so useful for cards and it doesn't open and close very easily, but the top four drawers open and close easily will be very handy for cards, just need to figure out which cards get a new home.

I also have a newer card catalog I got on ebay for about $150 (I picked it up, it was about 200 miles from my house). The rods come out easily, but you do have to put the cards on their sides, and they do not fit graded cards, but it is a very easy way to store cards.

I now need another one.

On occasion you may see an ornate old po box, always thought that could make a good vintage card fortress...
