Please show your Father and Son Shoes cards.....and if anyone has any info on them please bring it on. According to OldCardboard there are 17 in the set. I used to think there were 20. I have rarely seen them for sale...anyone? (I almost expect this to be the only post in this thread :))

Great cards! I have always liked cards that show the outfield billboards. I had never heard of these cards.

Cool cards Leon. Are the backs blank? If not, do you have scans of them by chance? I must admit, I've never heard of these ones before.

Thanks,

AndyH

Jon- That is an awesome ad. Thanks for sharing!!

Andy- the backs are blank and these cards are a very different size than most cards, 3 x 4.

I am already pleasantly surprised at the responses. Maybe I shouldn't second guess our members. :)

Here is what I know about these cards. I have only seen 17 total but I believe there might be 18 or 20, evenly split between the A's and Phillies. They are not always blank backed. I have seen a few examples of an ad stamp on back. My only one is the Merrill May below. Really have only seen a handful in the last 20 years. A member here did have an opportunity to buy some not too long ago if i recall but not sure it ever happened.

Joshua (never count out the members!)

Yes 17 known subjects to date. Most are blank back, some stamped as stated above. Cool set distributed in Philadelphia area in 1939 by Father & Sons Shoes stores.

I never knew that there was a Father and Son ad on some of the backs. Being a Phillies fan and living in the general Philadelphia area, I was at least somewhat familiar with this set. I have always been intrigued by the oddball, rare Philadelphia sets like Father and Son, Lummis Peanut Butter and Felin's Franks.

My lone example has a blank back - please ignore the 2 Schapira Bros. cards in the pic.

Cool cards & related info!

One finished on Ebay last week, had never heard of them, but decided to bid, stopped around the $50 range, I think the card ended at $113 which surprised me, but tough issues can command strong prices. Nice to get a little more info on the set.

If it ended at $113 then no one that knew what it was saw it. That was a steal of a price, imo. I would easily pay 2x-3x that for a decent one, right now. My email is leonl@flash.net but I won't hold my breath. Edited to add, I do know of a few trimmed ones and those would go in the 75-150 range, generally speaking.

First post on this site so lets make it a good one.

I am looking for the Emmett Mueller out of his set. If anyone could please help me track one down. I can't even find an image of this card online anywhere.

There aren't too many Father and Son threads so I am pulling up a 10 yrs old one. I was happy to just pick up this ad back from a board member. Would love to see, or know of, the ads on others.

I don't know why, but I really like this set. Here is a twin to Leon's card (same back stamp)...and another.

Here is a photo from 1978 that I found on the internet of one of the Father and Sons shoe stores, this one being near 69th Street in Philadelphia. Looks like that most of the shops on that side of the street were shoe stores.

It is interesting that two of the stamped ones shown each seem to indicate that it came from store identified as #14 on 3126 Kensington Ave...perhaps that was a hotbed of these card's minimal distribution.

Nice Fred, always fun to see cards I haven't seen before, and now we know at least another Father and Son store, this one in Chester, PA, were dishing the cards out.

Skeeter Newsome...now that is a baseball name. Name like that ought to hit about .320 with 60 SB.

Been looking for a Claude Passeau for my Cubs collection for years. There's a guy on eBay that wants $2700 for his.
