1933 goudey card #1 please help
been collecting 60's and 50's stuff for about a year now and now im looking to expand again
seems like goudey makes the most sense. anyway the reason im posting this. just bought bunch of vintage stuff and am trying to work a deal for the rest then the guy pulls out a 1933 goudey card #1. cant even remember the guys name, but he says it books for $1500,. the card is in about EX condition. no wrinkles or creases. no marks or writing. has some corner wear , but decent centering. just curious what a card like that might be worth? i dont have pics sorry, but i tried looking on ebay and didnt find much. so now im turning to the experts. any help would be appreciated thanks fellas |
Benny Bengough
I would only pay a premium for this #1 card if it was in high grade (7 and up) personal opinion for what it's worth |
ok thanks
i think this would grade about 5-6
its nice, again sorry no pics. |
Card number 1 in the '33 Goudey set is Benny Bengough. The Bengough card in that set definitely sells for more than you would think a Benny Bengough card would warrant, but $1,500 is high, IMO. SMR (I know, I know) lists the Bengough card as $600 in PSA5.
Card Target shows three sales last year of the card in PSA4 at an average of $277, and one sale last year in PSA5 at $900. The last PSA6 of that card (2010) listed on Card Target sold for $1,400. http://www.cardtarget.com/cgi-bin/gm...submit=Display |
that helps
cool good to know, the price on this one is about $200 asking price.
but he's always been open to offers, so just trying to figure out a decent buy price |
Nevermind
guy literally just called and said it was sold.
think i might stick with the goudey's for a while see what i can come up with |
#1 cards in some sets sell for more in high grade as the #1 cards tended to get the most wear way back when. Kids stored their sets in stacks, with the #1 card most commonly being on top and getting the most wear. The #1 cards usually aren't rarer than other cards, just rarer in high grade. A low grade version thus shouldn't get a premium-- just the high grade version.
