1910 T212-2 Obak Backs question
As most advanced collectors are probably aware, the 1910 T212-2 175 series Obaks were issued with 35 different back slogans. Has anyone ever completed a set with just one slogan? Is it even possible? I thought I remember seeing info on this subject at the VintageCardboard website, but that's no longer available.

I'd imagine that it would be somewhat difficult as some slogans are scarcer then others?

No idea on the slogans. I know that I got all but 1-2 about 10 yrs ago from that Trucker Boy find. Some are in deplorable condition but I don't care. Sometimes ya' take 'em as they come. http://luckeycards.com/pt212backsmaster.jpg |

Bruce? Is that a Dorskind reference? :) |
Hi Adam,
I believe it is not thought to be possible. According to some work done on this subject in the early 2000s, the most common slogan by far is "Convenient Sensible", but it was only known to be found on about 60 different subjects. (BTW, thie 2 articles on this were published in the old VCBC magazine). Cheers, Blair |
Nope
It is not possible to get every player in the set with one slogan back. Several slogan backs were only available on a handful of players. No back slogan was spread across all the players available.
I obtained all the back slogans many years ago which only took several months. but it was a relentless quest. Many listings dont show or indicate the back slogan (at least not back then) and it took a bit of persistence to determine the slogan. "Just Right" remains the toughest with only 5 players known with that back slogan. |

Adam,
I do not have any T212-2 but I recently acquired a group of OBAK cards that appear to all be cut from a sheet. They are very thick and also have not been circulated. If so, very little. I have 17 in total that I would like to trade for T206 beater's. There are several write-ups in The Vintage & Classic Baseball Collector magaizine. In Issue #12 Sept/Oct 1997 there is a 7 page detailed write-up. I have another VCBC magazine with a lengthy article also and will have to locate it. I looked in the magazine and it has a copyright so I will not be able to make copies of the pages but I will trade these magazines for a T206 or two. PM me if interested. Craig |
Neat idea but sadly others are correct can't be done via one slogan.

I also have some card back info but is also copyrighted. Its a copy of the breakdown of backs that was done by Mark Macrae in 1995 and was shared on vintagecardboard.net. I would love to share this info here but don't personally know Mark or the owner of vintagecardboard.net and don't want to cause any problems for Leon and myself. I can say that a complete set takes more than one back to complete.

Thanks for the input. I'm sure I read the VCBC articles at point, but just forgot. It was on my mind today as I recently picked up a few Obaks and I figured I'd throw it out there.

Just found both issues with Jeff Obermeyer's articles in my hoarding house of horrors.

I should add that I have a T212 website i've been working on but its not live yet. I'm trying to finish my T205 site first before moving to the next. I will be sure to post something when its ready to go live.

I think the highest number of cards you could find with one back is roughly 12 (give or take a couple). Probably the "Convenient Sensible" back.

"Convenient Sensible" appears on over 60 subjects. Almost all the other slogans are under 20. Cheers, Blair |

gotta love those Obaks.
It's my favorite 'T' set and my first tobacco cards. |
Thanks for the info. T212's are a cool issue. I just started a 1910 175 series set. I came close about 9 years ago with 82/175, before I had to part with them. Hoping to finally complete it this time.
