Photos used for '33 and '34 Goudey cards
Ben suggested this and I agree that it's a great idea.
We'll use this thread to collect images of photos used to create cards for the '33 and '34 Goudeys. As mentioned in the '34 Gehrig thread, it's obvious that the end result was not an exact copy of any photo - Lou's head simply wasn't that big - so, given that the pose is perfect, as well as the uniform creases, and we know that artistic license was taken with everything from the neck up, that would be a good photo to start this thread with. I have an image, but I'll defer to Ben :) I have no other original photos for these two sets, so please post up. Once we have a nice pile of them, I'll create a webpage and put a link in my signature line. |
This one was just on eBay. :D:D:D

Ben, great photos. Looking at the original photographs makes me appreciate the Goudey sets even more.

Alright peeps.. below are some more I found that were created from original Conlon images. It is clear that Conlon was to goudey as Horner was to t206 and Geo.Burke was to playball. It is also interesting that there are some very like images of a couple HOFS that I did a quick search on at the "conlon collection" website that makes be think were created by lost Conlon images. The "conlon collection" is obviously the biggest archive that still exists but there were many negatives that were lost/destroyed thus not complete. I have several TYPE 1 original photos made from these lost negatives that are not in the archive currently. Therefore, it might be hard to find every card image as they just might no longer exist. But damnit, we will try. ENJOY...

This is a great thread. Thanks to all who have contributed.

Of course, like the t206/Horner, PLayball/Burke there are images in the goudeys that were not conlons(i.e my gehrig, the dean and hornsby below in the thread) and this ben chapman that sold on ebay. The hard ones will be these scattered images as well as the LOST CONLONS.

Very cool thread. Personally, I have always disliked the Goudey Ruth. He looks constipated.
