Wagner cabinet card
Is it Real, Fake, Copy/Reproduction???
I tried bidding on it so far..but theres that feeling you get. http://www.ebay.com/itm/251233652722...84.m1431.l2649 But notice the Q/A section: Q: Hello--How old is this photo ? Is it a copy of the original one ? How old is the antique frame ? Can you show a picture of the frame ? Thank you--Jerry-- Feb-23-13 A: Hi Jerry, I going to post the pictures of the frame right after this message. I can tell you its not a new photo, its not a magazine or book picture, its a photo. I would say its a photo of the original. The frame has to be 75 years old, give or take a few. I will post your questions. Thanks Charlie Q: My understanding is that the original of this was photographed by R.W. Johnston Studios. I question how it got on another photographer's cabinet card. Could it have come from a magazine and gotten glued onto this card? Bob I have an original. Feb-23-13 A: Hi, Thanks for the info on the original. This is definitely not from a magazine or something from a book. Its photo paper, dull photo paper. It has to be a photo of the original, as the writing is in the picture. I hope you don't mind, but I will post this to the auction. Thanks Charlie Then just in the closing hours...i found this one (reporductions) that look similar, but without the writing/signature: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SET-OF-THREE...item19d9428aca |
Hmmm?! I have no idea what it is. His wagner, cobb stories sure are fantastical...yet could have happened in the 70's?

The reproduction ones look better than the one being offered as an original. Wow, these are hard to detect! It would be difficult to collect these unless you really know what to look for. I have a couple of John Sullivan boxing cabinets that I've bought over the years. I hope they are real. These reproductions being offered make you wonder about all the cabinet photos out there.

I would be wary of this seller. If you look at his Feed back, on December 29 he sold this - Item number 251203488428.
Back in 2011, he sold a bunch of reprint cards. David |

Double deja vu! First the supposed Joe Jackson postcard in Clean Sweep and now this Wagner Cabinet. Is it 2006 all over again??

I sent him a pm, saying it was a fake/repro and reported him |
Looky Looky..What we expected someone winning it with '0' FEEDBACK and only had made 2 bids in 30 days

When I first saw this Wagner cabinet on eBay last Saturday morning, I contacted the seller and asked if he had a "Buy It Now" price. I know nothing about these cabinet cards, so I just wanted to see what he said.
He said that he had several offers that morning and the first $500 would buy the card. Isn't that funny how a Zero feedback buyer paid over $500? I told him that that was way over my price and that I didn't know much about the card so that I would have to pass. He then told me that he would be interested in a trade and I asked him what he was looking for and his response was "tobacco and caramel cards". |
