Ty Cobb Autograph...
One of our local shops just acquired a Ty Cobb signature on a stamp...it has no PSA/DNA or COA, and is asking $400 for it. He is guaranteeing for 60 days after purchase that if it doesn't pass a PSA authentication your full refund. For all you Cobb experts...does it look legit? The shop and owner are extremely reputable, and shown by the 60 day guarantee...If this is legit, it certainly needs to be displayed better than with that garbage card...

Assuming the autograph was obtained around 1948 (Stamp Date) It's pretty close, only hesitation is it seems like Cobb always had a little slant to his autograph...If you look at examples, the last B almost always tails down....Everything looks very uniform and straight with this particular one...Hopefully some others chime in...Here's an example from 1949....

I would imagine the medium being a postage stamp would make it harder to authenticate. I'm sure he didn't sign many of those (who does?) and you would have to think his penmanship would have varied slightly while trying to fit his signature on such a small item. I'm by no means an authority on Cobb, but I do think in this case the item being signed is as important as anything else.

I would not be a buyer of this Cobb autograph, too many things wrong with it.
I have never been impressed by autographs on stamps, most are not authentic. |
