March Pick Ups
I bought this Walter Johnson 1908 postcard in the Legendary auction last night. I thought it was a special piece. I like the idea of the Big Train sitting down and writing a postcard to his friend after a win. It was only a few months into his second big league season. Signed Walter J.

Leon, how do I make the picture bigger? It's big enough everywhere except when uploaded to here. Thanks.
|
I'm not sure who your host is but sometimes I'll double click the photo in Photobucket, which makes it larger, and I'll save the zoomed in photo rather than the original image.
|
when you upload through n54, you can choose the size of the image? don't quote me on that as i mostly just put the link on my photobucket.

I picked these up in an auction off ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Whitey-Ford-...vip=true&rt=nc The coa is from Michael Brazil and Sports Stuff, I hope they are real. I also picked up a nice Mike Schmidt with no coa. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MIKE-SCHMIDT...vip=true&rt=nc |

Picked this one up a few weeks back and got it back from the framer yesterday...
Cut piece of Paper signed by Mark Roth: The New York Scribe who was credited with naming the Yankees (first used in print in 1904 & later stuck in 1913)... Years later, Roth was hired as the Yanks travelling secretary by Jacob Ruppert and held the post into the Dimaggio years... I also read in a recently published Yankees book that Hotel Concierges would frequently mix up Roth & Ruth's room reservations while on the road... Mark often found his key leading him to a penthouse suite, which the Babe didn't seem to mind because he never slept!!! I found the oddly shaped photo of the 1929 Yankees with Roth second in from the left on the second row (Gehrig has arm around Roth) Far from a yankees fan, but happy to pick this one up given its baseball history |
Picked this up from Mears

Very pleasantly surprised at the hammer price. :D
Signed by artist and subject, 23" x 29" |
Picked this up from a board member. It has changed hands a few times in the last few months. I can assure you it won't be changing hands again for quite some time. I absolutely love it!

Lelands refunded me and I bought the Walter instead. But only after a great exchange with Hank Thomas. I appreciate his help.

I also get to add a nice new find. It is not even for my personal collection as he is not an American and I only collect images of American Olympians. This signature is nice for my Olympic Autograph database. Probably the only exemplar collection of just Olympians. This is Claes Johanson (1884-1949) - He won a gold medal in Greco-Roman Wrestling (middleweight) at the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm and a gold medal in Greco-Roman Wrestling (light heavyweight) at the 1920 Olympics in Antwerpen. He also competed in 1924 in Paris, but did not medal at the age of 40. Below his signature it reads: 'Olympiska Mastare 1920' - Olympic Champion 1920 and 'Goteborg, Sverige' - Goteborg, Sweden, the town he lived in. |
Picked up my first Greenberg complete with the envelope he sent it back in. Thanks, Sean.

Thrilled with these for the WWII collection:
Chylak: was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and earned a Purple Heart. (Had a severe eye injury; sometimes umpire jokes write themselves.) Donatelli: fascinating story: was a POW in Germany, actually started his umpiring "career" there, umping games between the prisoners. Also, acquired last month, what I feel is a total oddity and surely uncommon: Harold Arlin, who was the first broadcaster ever over the radio for a baseball game (and FB!) Ken |
This isn't worth nearly as much as some of the items you have all gotten, but I finally finished up a project to 100% completion that I have been working on for almost 3 years now. Signed by all 25 members of the Opening Day Roster in 2010 (Target Field's Inaugural Season) plus Manager Ron Gardenhire. I am not much of an in person grapher, so getting this done took some creativity, bartering, some help from forum members (patneshek.com) as well as Pat Neshek himself. Now to frame it....decisions, decisions.

Looks great Cottnat! I just finished (I think) something similar myself...

Very nice, I think the projects look great, and I know there are some with a lot more impressive names, but I am pretty pumped to have mine done. With the current MLB structure that has players being easily traded, demoted, leaving via FA, retiring, etc. it makes it really difficult to nab all the guys before they end up on other teams. It was easier to get Joe Mauer/Justin Morneau than it was to get Brendan Harris/Alexi Casilla.
|
Cottnat/Rays & Mariners -
Great items. I will say that it is very tough to collect a full team, but to collect that full team on one specific item, that my friend is very very tough. Don't let the completion take away the joy you have with the piece....(some time the chase is the best part)!! |

Yep, I'm in Seattle. Felix's auto is at the top right of the base. Not his best looking auto but its his. My wife and I were just down in Spring Training and I got the plate finished.
Thanks Eric |
Love those projects, guys. And some of those Twins players look like they really take pride in their signatures. Nice to see these days.

Yeah, I assumed so given that it's the Twins. I just don't like to being Harmon into EVERY comment I make. ;)

I may have gotten it in hand in February, but I'm just getting around to posting. I hit a cheap BIN on ebay for a 1952 Yankees @ Senators scorecard with Mantle...price was something like $29.99.
One of the auction photos showed part of a pencil signature. I couldn't tell for sure at the time, but after I requested additional photos it turns out the scorecard is signed in pencil by Senators owner and 1946 Baseball HOF inductee, Clark Griffith. Not too bad for less than $40. (I'll add a photo this evening) |
Eric
You arent the only hard up Mariners fan on here. I live and die with them every night during the season (mostly die) and I LOVE the plate. Even got Jack Z on there! Me and my boys are going to the last Spring game of the Season in Salt Lake City (where I played my college ball) and were going to see if we cant get some autographs. We went to one game last year and got John Jaso, Jason Vargas and Tom Wilhelmson to sign, all were VERY nice and polite which was refreshing to see! Cool item! Rhys |

Thanks Rhys! - My wife and I went to Phoenix for a week. 7 days and 7 games. That was a great time! I think just about all of the Mariners were very pleasant and signed autographs even took pictures with them.
The only guy that was kind of standoffish was Guti. He kind of stayed away from all the fans (at least while we were there). Scott - We live Downtown! Eric |
Just got this today! Very happy to add this future Hall of Famer to my collection :)

I was born and raised in Seattle until I was 12, then we moved away but the love of ALL Seattle sports teams was too well rooted to die. I live in Boise, Idaho now but we are close enough that Root Sports is standard with our Cable Package so I get to watch about 155 games a year and to my wife's dismay, I watch them all. We try and make it up once a year to see a game but this year with the Salt Lake Spring Game the trip is shorter (and my In-Laws live in Utah anyways). My boys are all die-hard fans too which I love but sometimes I do feel bad for creating such fans in a traditionally bad team (I have an awesome video of my 6 year old crying his eyes out when Ichiro got traded to the YANKEES last year, our families mortal enemy). It teaches them about sticking with something though and SOMEDAY the Mariners will win a World Series and it will mean more to me and my kids than any one specific World Series will ever mean to a Yankees fan! Rhys |
This week I picked up a couple of old, white haired guys (might be wigs LOL):
